The Heck Happened Last Night?

Woke up this morning to find my male guppy dead and stuck on my Tetra Whisper 10i filter and my favorite female's tail damaged. What deduction can i make? My fish got drunk at a bar and had such wild sex that one of them died?

I now switched the filter to a double sponge filter.

Is (or rather was) your tank cycled? Of course, if you've changed the filter, you will have to re-cycle your tank now anyway. Healthy fish do not get stuck on filters; only unhealthy fish that don't have the strength to swim away. Have you tested the water?
