the two little girl bettas I drug home from walmart...tonight while doing their water change they got mad at me and swum around, and then once I was all done they swam at the surface some, ate a little and then checked out the filter I put in their tank, woohoo!!! this is more then I expected out of them so early consider how bad they looked when I brought them home(floating sideways or upside down in their filthy filthy mostly empty cups)

I added a whisper 1-3 gallon filter...I dont like the amount of flow, but its the smallest thing Ive got, I lowered the water level some so they dont have to work so hard getting around, I put the heater in a sideways position near the bottem so I can change the water daily without unpluging and repluging the filter. and I gave them another rock to hide around.

so I am a tiny bit more hopefull for their recovery:), oh also what is the best temp I should keep them at? 78-80 or even a little higher like 81 or 82? I know baby bettas like it warm and humid, its at 80 right now.

YAY! That is so great to hear! :good:

Wow they were that bad when you got them? Poor things :( Gosh I'm so glad the Walmarts around us have stopped selling fish. It would just break my heart if I still had to see the aweful conditions they had to live in still.

Do you have a valve thing for the bubble filter? You can one for cheap at walmart. You could connect the tubing to that so you could adjust how strong the current is on the filter. Just an idea :)

As for temp.. around 80 is perfect. Really not sure if raising the temp helps them heal better or faster, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try.

Awww it sounds like they're going to make it!

When they get mad at you it's a good sign. :good:

well done on the rescue mission....glad the girls are perking up!!!! musta got them just in time ;)

I have to admit I am suprized they are perking up so well. but I am worried, the girls either spend all of their time very very close together or following each other around...or having a staring contest....I am hopeing that wont lead to bickering once they feel well....as I do not know betta behavior at all.

and as a side note... how long should I keep them in the 5 gallon before they go to my sisters sorority....all my sisters girls are full grown and big...and my sister and I worry about them getting picked on...a month or 2 at least?

Yeah... I'd wait until they've grown some personally. Just to make sure they're healthy enough and to make sure they're not going to pass on anything to her fish.

when introducing a new female to my group, i put her in a breeding trap with some sand on the bottom and a few floating plants, and let her get aqauinted with her suroundings and her new tank mates for a few days mabey a week. tehy will learn the pecking order thru the glass without any harm

that is a great idea, Im going to keep them in the 5 gallon till they have grown out some, as right now the older girls look like they could still eat them.
