me and the other half were thinking of a trip over this weekend, is it any good ?

hi,
my hubby and 3 kids went last yr, yes it was ok, we were spoilt by going to the sea life centre in plymouth that was awsome, have a good time when you go, :good: all the best donna :) .

hmmm plymouth's a bit of a mish for us, thanks tho

If we go I'll report back :good:

aye my work mates say I should charge people for coming round, like a public aquarium

aye I'm in 2 minds cos of the animal testing, don't know the facts really to make my mind up, but I'm sure it would be amazing to visit :D

I went to the Deep last year and enjoyed it very much indeed. They've got this tank that sort of goes down several floors, so that you have a shallow reef at the top, then the deep end of it goes right down, with sharks and things at the bottom, and lots of different angles to view the fish from. I've been to Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Hull within the last year, and Hull was definitely the best.

cool, doesn't look like were going this weekend now, might go for a little trip for my bday in a few weeks

No, I've been twice. I live about an hour from it so to me it's my nearest public aquarium. However, everytime i've been i've been disappointed. It certianly isn't a full day out really, it only last a few hours at most. It's really just one massive tank which grabs your attention for about 30 minutes or so and that's about it (assuming you can see over the tourists heads to look in it!!).

I believe that last time we went we spent more time in the gift shop than the actual aquarium.

Perhaps I was lucky or perhaps it's got more boring since I went a year ago. I spent hours watching the cleaner wrasse doing their cleaning and different fish interacting with each other over the reef. It's not just one tank, either: downstairs, they've got quite a few smaller tanks, and a coldwater one or two.

The one that disappointed me was Bournemouth, which sold itself with all these amazing freshwater habitats; but in fact, a lot of the fish didn't look that healthy, and there were some serious mismatches=bullying going on. But maybe I just picked a bad day- as we all know, fishkeepers have them.....

I quite like my local one in Portsmouth; it's not enormous but it always looks well kept.

where's ellesmere port when it's at home then?
