The Black Parade

heres what i think:

These days Emo is a term that is now used more to describe a person (how they act, speak, think) and to describe a fashion (skin tight jeans, skate shoes, shirts that are either to tight for them or say some slogan on them and long black greasy hairstyle with most noticibly "the fringe")

Since most bands dress/act in the same manor and sing in a noticibly nasal tone, they are being labelled as Emo, which is now used as marketing tools too attract the majority of mainstreem youths into buying their albums, because they think they have their own type of music to asociate themselves with.

Unfortunatly their are really depressed people who also dress this way but are just teased for being Emo because of how they act and how there are so many other people dressing/acting the same way who arnt depressed, so if one depressed person decides to take their life, everybody else who dresses/acts the same way has to "suffer" the consequences because of it.

MCR are slowly moving from the "post-hardcore"/emo fase into the mainstreem pop-ish/"punk" fase, IMO, and they are more frequently being heard on the radio, played on the TV etc etc and just because the band has influences, does not mean it is going to sound like them

for example
the members of Metallica say their influences are Hendrix, Rush etc and they sound next to nothing like them

to me MCR sound nothing like Queen, but thats just my personal opinion

greenday used to be outright punk (Dookie etc), until they decided they needed cash and went off and made a mainstream record (american idiot)

Slipknot are/were Nu Metal(lack of solos,"rap" style of singing), but they are slowly becoming more of a heavy metal influenced band

but thats just what i think

"I wish my grass were emo, then it would cut itself."

Check out these websites, they are so funny, but beware little kids, they could have some adult words in them....This is a funny knock off of wikipedia!

http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/####_m...rd, just type it in, the article is so funny!

-_- Ok. Why do people do that?
The emo jokes aren't even funny anymore its just plain sad.
=O

TBH I'm too grownup to evaluate EMO, so I let the proper Wikipedia do it for me *lol*. EMO is basically teen pop "rock" with black eyeliner and teenage angst, so that encompasses My Chemical Romance nicely (as well as other cack). :good:

intil i went to college (September 06) i had never heard of emo anmd apparently ive been listing to their music for years when did the term emo first start getting used? oh and i still can find anybody who can actually tell me what an emo is! ohh apparantly i dress like one too minus the hair.

Quite the contrary, I think they're funny as hell, and many others do too!

I'm with you there they are hilarius, Emo is a ridiculous state of affairs in the first place. Most of these kids are from rich families and have lovely little lifes and think they are rebelling by prtending to have crys for help.Pffft wait till your a little older and have to deal with the REAL WORLD and you will soon forget about this emo stupidity.

Back on topic I quite like MCR although im more into bands like Maximo Park, The Fratillis, The View, The Killers etc.

Quite sad to hear some of the comments on here regarding "emos". It seems that stereotyping hasn't died at all and everyone is tarred with the same brush.
When I was sixteen I was a "grebo", skin tight jeans, biker jacket, heavy make-up etc. and everyone treated me like I was a criminal. Lost count of the disapproving looks I used to get. All my friends dressed similar and we used to drink in a biker pub and there was never any trouble. I had a job as a live-in nanny to three young girls, a job which I loved but people didn't see that, only what I was wearing. I didn't wear the clothes to rebel, I just liked the syle and my parents weren't rich. My mother was wheelchair bound and my father was a full time carer for my mum and six children.
My daughter is an "emo" and again she doesn't come from a rich family, she likes the music and the style of clothes. As for cutting herself, it's absolute rubbish. I know many kids who dress the same way and don't go around cutting themselves. The same was said about us years ago and it was rubbish then!
My daughter is very intelligent and is in all the top classes at school and has plans for college and university. She has also dealt with more in 14 years than most people deal with in a lifetime but still continues to do well for herself.
Please don't judge others by how they dress or look, it's underneath what counts.

I get called emo all the time, don't really care... and if i was emo id be slitting me wrists. Sure i may look slightly emo, that doesn't mean i am, i smile and am always cheery around people...which "emos" arn't they can be moody devils and quite depressing... as i say never judge a book by it's cover, the amount of people who do is ridiculous. I'm more moshy than emo as i always wear baggy pants and t-shirts, the only emo part on me is my eyes and hair, (eyeliner n black short hair) and the eyeliner is descreet anyway n the black hair looks more brown than black so i don't really understand how i look emo. Anyway i think everyone should get to know the person before judging them.

When I was a bit younger (still participating in the real "punk" scene) the emo kids were the ones wearing girl pants and tiny collared shirts. the eyeliner shaggy haired ones that are being refered to as EMO on here were the hardcore kids and yes they were always cutting themselves and &*%$ like that. the avatar on x darkangel x is definately a hardcore kid by my book. Dashboard Confessional and Saves the Day are EMO. AFI, MCR, etc are hardcore bands, and preety much poser ones at that.

Never did understand why all the hardcore kids were so masochistic though cause most of them drove to the shows in BMW's that their parents bought them. While the rest of us snuck onto the commuter rail.

Well, if none of you know yet, My Chem just released a few new songs, you can get them on iTunes now.

-Kill All Your Friends
-My Way Home Is Through You
-Heaven Help Us
-Welcome to the Black Parade (Live)
-Famous Last Words (Live)

I really recromend Kill All Your Friends. It's pretty funny, iTunes list the lyrics as clean, but they aren't. lol

just bumping this to say
i saw MCR live at the Big Day Out festival here down in Australia
they were extremly bad
id rather hear nails scratch a blackboard
some of the local indie bands were better then them
the only person with talent is the guitarist, MCR dont deserve him
i also met Gerrad Way, he was a arrogant depressing d!ck head, the gutarist was nice though :)

just my little rant

They aren't the best live, I know...
Ray Toro is a very good guitarist I agree. Ben, if you didn't like them live, and would just rather hear what they sound like in the sudio, buy either The Black Parade or I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love. Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge isn't their greatest work, and you wouldn't like Life On The Murder Scene, because it's mainly a live album.

You know, I don't give a crap anymore, call them emo. I agree that their first two albums are on the emo side, but their new album is going away from that. I really don't care what people think about my music anymore.

They got two new singles coming out! I Don't Love You, and Teenagers!!!
