The Black Parade

Well, I guess you could classify some of the songs as emo, but the band itself is not emo, only the rythm guitar player (Frank). It just reall bugs me when people go:

OHHH!!!! THAT'S EMO!!!!! IT SUX, THAT BAND SUX... YOU SUCK!!!!

Many people on this forum don't even know what emo is, some guy called Slipknot emo.

Lol! Slkipknot is not emo! Still, the genre is Screamo and the members are emo. I haven't lisend to the CD because I don't like screamo but I have some friends who lisen to MCR and say there quite good.

Acutally... My Chemical Romance is not Screamo... they're actually Alternative, listen to the album... you'll actually here alot of influences by the band Queen. Some of their influences:

Iron Maiden
The Misfits
Morissey/ The Smiths

The lead singer dresses pretty emo.. I've never really seen the rest of the band up close.. but judging the makeup and tight black pants I'd say he is emo.

Does that make the music emo.. I don't think so.. but I can see why some people would think they are emo..

I don't understand why some people have an obsession with classifying music.. who cares if the music doesn't fit perfectly in one category.. I sure don't!

Honestly I don't really like MCR, I'm more into Punk and even then It's gotta be Street Punk. Not knocking it or anything but if someone asked me to classify MCR i'd call them emo with a halloween twist! I'm just really turned off by all the hot-topic sell outs that keep hitting the scene these days. If you want some really good stuff try listening to bands like One Man Army, Operation Ivy, Street Dogs, U.S. Bombs. Music in same vein as these bands is more authentic Punk than the stuff on MTV anyday.

Yes, but I've liked MCR since before they went Mainstreem (I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me You Love).

I had never actually seen anything by them on MTV or Fuse until just a few weeks ago.

Yes but you did see them on there didn't you? And is their song unpopular? Their sellouts in the most plain sence no getting around that. I used to really like AFI as well but then they brought out the art of drowning and got all goth and I knew they wouldn't last long before they were all over MTV as well. Basically, when I'm going to class at University and the Cheerleader sitting next to me on the train wearing a pink sweatsuit and piggytails has AFI or MCR on her iPod, I begin to think that maybe the bands have gone a little too far, my music will never be accepted my the mainstream radio types because the bands literally do everything they can to prevent their work fom being used to make money for other people.

Seriously, go down to the record store and try and buy a record label sampler with AFI's new stuff or anything from MCR and see if you can get it for $2 or less, that's what you'll pay for some real punk.

The Art of Drowning was a great album. Black Sails in the Sunset was really good too. Sigh... everything these days goes mainstream.

Answer that and stay fashionable was a great album, almost everything after that was goth and thus represents a falling away from AFI's hardcore punk beginings.

Not everything these days goes mainstream, there is a whole world of underground music in virtually every genre out there that is almost always much better than the mainstream. Check out the Hellcat record label www.hell-cat.com and you'll find some great bands, some have become popular but they have still not signed with major labels and sought to become rich and famous. (Tiger-Army has had some connection with AFI in the past)

Eh, I don't really like Tiger Army that much, I knew about them before. When I look for underground bands, I use trusty old PureVolume.

Personally, I'm not one of those people who are all like: They're mainstream, I refuse to listen to them. I just listen to anything/ everything I like.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people either. I like a lot of other stuff that would be considered mainstream, but my experience has been that major label punk bands usually just sound stupid and sing about stupid stuff. It's to be chalked up to the record execs telling them what can and can't go on their records.

I like it when the artists are out there to put out kick ass music instead of trying to srll as many records as possible, the feeling just isn't there with for instance Blink 182 like it is there for bands like bad religion or Rancid. That's why I tend to stick with underground.

I absolutly love My Chemical Romance.. and i did get this new album.
I wouldn't class them as emo but I've read interviews with them in Kerrang! and they class themselves it, so thats their choice.
Gerard Way looked more emo before he cut his hair and dyed it.
Oh yeah who read the daily mail article about the emo scare?

Also whoever called Slipknot emo obviously know nothing.. lol sorry if thats offensive. But no, that would be like calling, hmmm, Nile, emo.

Since everyones talking about being emo here goes. To anyone that lives in the UK did you hear about the article in the daily mail saying how emos are worse that goths and parents should be aware about selfharming and other stuff? It said my chemical romance and green day were encouraging teens to become like them! Green Day isn't even an emo band! Teenagers was written about that article. Good album though.

erm didnt i already ask that question about the daily mail. You could have just put yes i did read that article instead of completely copying what i asked.
Anyway teenagers wasnt written about that article it was actually written when gerard way was looking out a window on the way home and felt really old and paranoid about teenagers who listened to their music.(You need to read kerrang! I know this because i read the interview)
Ok.. rant over.
