TFF

william made it.....dunno how he thought of it though.im interested to find out,

from reading a post i think his brother or friend owns a hosting company and he started the website for free , i think LOL

William didn't make it another person did.
we are not allowed to metion his name on pain of death :p

I have never thought about it before...who did make it The-Wolf? I'm sure the pain of re-visiting your memories is great, but please...for the newer members?

And something I just thought about.....there were 13,486 members before me, so where did all of them go?

And did it go boom from the begining? And does this forum have English roots? I mean, Englishmen created it right?

i just think that TFF is a great resource and should be used by everyone esp newbees..... god i wish i had found this sonner! also how do people become mods?

Yes it most certainly has English roots ;)
People come and go over the years.
Lots of pleople create duplicate or numerous (though it's against the rules) accounts.
Lots of people sign up but never post and never come back.

Such is live ;)

Well actually, I did make (ie: install the forum). The initial story of TFF is as follows, there used to be a website: www.tropicalaquariums.co.uk (which does not seem to work anymore) run by someone called "Davy Reynolds"- (same username on here), they had an eZboard web discussion forum, you know the ones with hundreds of popups adverts for viagra and flashing 1 millionth visitor things. Anyway I was quite interested in tropical fish, and there were some like minded people on there, maybe a total of 100, 150 members, although not so many active, the main ones were called adeyc, rose, davy reynolds (of course), and half a dozen others, who I apologise for not remembering their names.

At the time iKonboard- www.ikonboard.com had free forum software, and so upon asking davy about creating a new banner free faster, slicker more functional software he said ok, so I installed it, and me and davy were admins and Rose and adeyc became moderators. The first year was pretty slow, started in january, by july we had over 100 members; http://web.archive.org/web/20020809101654/...n/ikonboard.cgi .

About September me and Davy, had a disagreement over the direction the site should go, and we parted our ways. I definitely regret that, because Davy -although I only knew him virtually- definitely seemed a really good guy. That was September 2002 and the site was now called FishForum.Net and I had upgraded it to Invisionboard (which was created from a splinter of the iKonboard group) was still very much in it's infancy: http://web.archive.org/web/20021017104619/...orums/index.php

In the time members have come and gone, along with moderators, but three years on it's great that some of the original moderators do still remain on the site such as dragonslair, gadazobe and Great Lakes.

Where the forum is today, wow, who could have guessed. Moderators and helpful members have offered invaluable assistance and ensured the smooth running of the website, ultimatedly it is the fish you keep which have led you here and resulted in the success of the site, and it's refreshing that they are the real winners here. Who knows how many fish have been saved by the information provided by people on this website, I would imagine it numbers somewhere in the hundreds if not thousands.

---

Other issues:

Member numbers- these are incorrect because during the upgrade from ikon -> invision, their upgrader was not perfect, it also munched the initial posts order- see: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...9587&#entry9587 for example, note the dates as you scroll down- flicking from Feb1 to Jan 31 etc..!

Interesting! Thanks for that Will

And yes, all hail Def

It's the best and most active forum I have found. I was using 3 different forums when I first started earlier this year. I have since pretty much left the other 2. I occasionally go back to them but they're not very active. The activity is the life blood of a forum. It does no good to have knowledgable members if no one is active and posting. When you have a problem, you need an answer quickly. You can't afford to wait 3, 4, 5 hours or more to find out what you need to do. Most everyone here is very friendly (the forum title fits) and knowledgable. Keep up the good work everyone and thanks William.
