Tetra Tec Ex1200Leaking

as title says,i have cleaned filter today and now its leaking,water is pouring out from where the locking handles are,i`v assembled and re-assembled approx 4 times,do you think it could poss be the o ring?everything else,pump ect is working fine

I had trouble with my ex1200 a couple of months after getting it, when I gave it a good clean. It turned out to be a "dry" o-ring due to me cleaning too well. I just put a small amount of vasoline along the o-ring and have never had a problem with it since

Let me give this a try. I have a Marineland C series filter, which seems to be identical to the Tetra-tec from any pictures I have seen. I finally tracked a severe leak problem that I was experiencing to the joint between the hoses and the hose connections on the valve manifold at the top of the filter. One of the hoses was just not sealing right at that joint. I ended up completely removing the hose and reseating it with its hose end nut to get a good seal. That was the last trouble I had with my water leak.
I do not dispute other people's advice on using a lubricant but found my own case was a leaky hose connection.

dont use vaseline.. use silicone grease.. i got that from a guy that services breathing apparatus for the fire service.. vaseline will cause damage eventually..

god i`m so fed up of this blinkin filter,finally discovered leak is coming from the hose adapter unit,i managed to get through to tetra customer services who are sending me a replacement part out,i must say there customer service is excellent,

Good to know their customer services are speedy, they're based in Germany right? Will be efficient and well organised I'm guessing...

i really have to look out for another filter as a spare

Sounds like the O ring needs replacing it has got dry some time in the past then this would allow it to get damaged easier.

For the future thought definitely grease O rings it makes a big difference

If your in the UK most towns have a Maplins they do silicone grease

I get that you ended up finding your hose adapter was the problem. I hope my hint helped there. The many posts that I see about using a seal lubricant seem to me to indicate a weakness in the original design of filters. I have only been using Rena canister type filters for 7 years now but have yet to use any form of seal lubricant on my filters. My guess is that filters that require some form of seal lubricant have a design flaw. Properly designed filters should not require any particular seal lubricants.

Oldman47, really a design flaw? A lot of o-ring based seals do with with silicon grease...I used it in scuba diving to get a nice seal everytime with the tank and regulator? I can't remember if the tetratec filter I have came with grease applied when I first bought it or not?
