Tetra In 600 Filter

my tertra in 600 has two carpartments can i put filter wool in one of the carparments just clear the water a bit for now the carpartments have sponge in will this be ok

its best to keep just the foam in i found... i did try ramming wool down the holes in the top of my 300 but it slowed the flow far too much...
