I would like to buy some terracotta plant pots for a tank that I'm constructing, altough my dad said I need to buy sealed ones because if I don't the water will turn red or discolour. Is this correct?

I have always just used them as they are, upsidedown and a hole chipped out for a spawning cave for Dwarf Cichlids. No Problems.
Cheapo unglazed terracotta pots.

I raid the wife's gardening supplies when I need a pot. A good rinse, and into the tank they go.

make sure the pots are unglazed, as some glazes are toxic to fish.

whole, half, no bottom or however, theses are some of the most versatile bits of kit you can use in FW fishkeeping. personally i have never heard of problems with them, though those who have not ever used them tend to think they may be.

i JUST BOUGHT ONE FROM A GARDEN CENTRE, NO PROBS WITH COLOURING, WATER PARAMETERS ETC. sorry about caps, just realized!

No worries mate. Glad you got sorted
