Hi folks, new to the site and this is my first post. I set up a Juwel Rio 240 last weekend and began a fishless cycle on Sunday.I have read on the forums here that it is best to do the cycle at a high temperature(mid eighties),consequently I set the thermostat on my heater to its highest setting of 32 degrees but my water temp.is struggling to get above 26deg. My tank has a single 200watt heater. Is my heater faulty or do I need to buy another one to get my temp.higher.

The heater is a little bit smaller than you might want for the 240, but it should still get the temperature alot closer than that. I'd guess it's probably faulty. Is it on all the time? Or only some of the time?

i would go for a 300w heater for that tank. thats what i have and at the moment im fishless cycling at 30oc

The heater is on all the time. The aquarium comes with the heater and filter built in,surely they should be sufficient for a tank of this size.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I guess i will buy a 300watt heater, use that in the tank, and keep the 200watt as a spare. will the 300watt fit into the same slot as the 200.
