Need help removing Home and gallery from the windows explorer file. Anyone know how I do it easily, without trying to follow the stupid crap on google? I don't do powershells or registries.

OMG why would microsofty stick those there anyway?

Click on the ... in the file explorer toolbar and then options

Even though the 'home' and 'gallery' icons don't bother me I looked in Winaero Tweaker to see if there was an option to disable. I didn't see one.

However I DID come across an option to bring up the full boot menu at post. Here is my new post screen. I just like having the options even if it does need an extra keystroke to continue to Windows. Well, actually not the system post screen but the full set of options as to how to load Windows. While I have Safe Mode options show in my right click context menus it requires a successful boot to Windows to use. Now I can remove this option from the context menu to shorten the list.

Oh, I should add the main reason for wanting the expanded boot menu. I used to run Win 11 on my main but, after an update it would just boot to a black screen so I went back to Win 10. When a bit back I tried again to update Win 10 to 11 I ended with the same black screen. I figured that the cause was a video driver issue so removed everything video and the upgrade went fine. Reinstalled drivers and all is still well. If this situation should, again, raise its evil head I will have the option to boot in low resolution mode which should result in the Windows generic SVGA drivers just like how I got away with the video driver issue when last upgrading

This is weird too. When I am on this page in the forum and have File Explorer on, viewing file explorer with the ms edge web browser open behind it, the file explorer flashes around the edge. It doesn't do this on any other page in the forum. I tried around 6 other pages on the forum and file explorer didn't flash around the edges. It only does it on different pages on this thread.

I've been doing some reading on my current monitor's issues with bars after startup. Turns out it's the capacitors warming up. So the colder the room temp, the longer it takes to clear the screen. We had frost for the first time the other day, which meant I was waiting 30-35 minutes for the whole screen to clear. I was thinking of repair, but after reading it seems almost impossible to fix. I'm now looking into upgrades. After discussion with some friends, OLED seems like the most future-proof way to go that will last 🤞.

Has anyone had experience with OLED monitors? It seems they don't come cheaply yet! I've found a couple of options but would like to hear others' experiences :)

Both my 43 inch Samsung and 55 inch LG are oled. The LG is also HDR (High Definition Rang). Both are 4K and have excellent pictures. I paid a bit over $400.00 for the Samsung and around $750.00 for the LG.

Something to keep in mind that OLED is susceptible to screen burn but not as much so as CRT. This is one of the reasons that I use animated wallpapers.

$400 seems like a good deal. I'm looking at 27-inch as it's the size as my current Samsung one. These are the two Ive found so far. They are in the cheaper bracket. I probably would throw £500-550 at a new monitor. But I expect a good 5+ years of use before anything happens. My current one is 7 years old so I expected issues to occur.

A couple of tech sites based in the UK also have refurbished monitors for sale. Usually at a saving of £100-150. You reckon that's a smart thing to consider too?

I would not go refurbished for an OLED TV as their life expectancy is not as long as straight LED. I do do refurbished but seriously doubt that I would with an OLED. Manufacturers will advertise life spans of 30,000-100,000 hours but that is under controlled lab tests, It is also possible that newer models have a longer span than when introduced. To be honest, only having mine 2-3 years, I can't claim to have personal experience with this.

If you get an OLED make sure to keep the firmware up to date and don't overdo the brightness. Both are reported to extend the lifespan.

I used to have a 27 inch Asus monitor and it was quite good. I gave it away when I redid my 'electronics wall' and got rid of a corner desk my Asus laptop used to sit on.

Thanks again, :) I'll make sure to do firmware updates and not go overboard with brightness.

I've found one more option which looks like a good deal. I've always had MSI components but never monitors, so I may give this one a go. 280Hz does seem a bit overkill for what I need, but I won't complain. After all I'm still on a 144Hz VA panel! So any new monitor is an upgrade. Using Klarna won't burn as big a hole in my wallet, too ;).

MSI has a good reputation but I've never used their displays so can't really advise.

This DOES bring up a question of my own. The last monitor you reported has a refresh rate of 280 HZ yet the human eye, normally, has a limit of 60 HZ.. There ARE exceptions to this but it is mostly what the brain does with what the eye sees. So I wonder, if the TV allows, if setting the Hz. to say 140 instead of the 280 might not extend the life span.

Here is an article you may find of interest.
