So in my new tank I'm noticing cloudy water and i am wondering if it has something to do with the tap water. Is it even safe to use it in a aquarium . Its a freashwater tank.

When I first put water from the tap in my tank it does the same thing, i let it sit for a few days and put declhorinater in it and it's fine after that and clears up after a day or two

is your tank new? because i have heard that this is because of the beginning of the cycle. makesure that you put in the conditioners, like cycle, aqua plus and waste control. also i have found out that the kent product call pro-ammonia detox by Kent is very good. its meant for saltwater but it works for freshwater too. this maybe because of the gravel was a bit dirty too when you added it. there is also a product called Nutrafin P-Clear. if you are just cycling the tank dont put any fish in yet because the will get ammonia poisoning. here some links of the products i have talked about

Are you cycling your tank? Does the water do this straight from the tap or is it something that happens after being added to the tank? If so, it could be a bacterial bloom, debris from the substrate being disturbed when the water is added, but it's probably nothing to worry about.

You are putting the dechlorinator in the water at the same time as it goes in to the tank, aren't you?

I fill up 2 five gallon buckets and put declhorinater in it let it sit for a couple days then Add it to my tank
The only time I had it cloudy is when I replaced all the water in it and I had to start over

I don't see why it's going cloudy, but if you are using a dechlorinator, you don't need to let it sit. Before dechlors were available, you had to let it sit to allow the chlorine to gas off from the water - the dechlor negates that.

dechlorinator works instantly on tap water

leaving it in a bucket for a few days would mean you dont even need to add dechlorinator as it will gas off of tap waterin 24 hours anyway. So basically you are throwing money down the drain.

It'll gas off chlorine in a couple of days but not chloramines (assuming his supply has them) and they're just as deadly to the fish and filter, so he would still need a dechlorinator. If he left it for over a week, on the other hand, well...

Really depends on your local water supplier and what they put in it, for me, its such a small measure, i personally only bother with dechlorinator if i do a 50% or more water change. (Which i do, weekly on my large tank). But with the 20% i do on my small tank, i dont bother with any. \o/
