LOL thanks for all your advice anyways Geoff! Wow! Not qualified yet? Cannot imagine how complex it must be to be an electrician especially with older wiring etc

very! and they update every year, which is like a whole manual full of updates I believe.

only extra thing I might suggest is mount your 4-way extensions on the wall about 18 inches off the floor - this ensures you have your drip loop, plus means less wires to trip over!

Why not stick a 5A fuse in the master plug for your extension for a little more piece of mind? I bet you could plug most of your bits 'n' bobs including tank and computer and run off that! Only danger of daisy chaining your extensions is total load as mentioned above (VA / Amps) which a 5A fuse will protect against but also often overlooked is dirty pins or old sockets that have arcing damage. This leads to resistance = heat which is bad news.

So basically, get out of the habbit of leaving factory supplied 13A fuses in everything, make sure all sockets and plugs are clean and free from buildup of crap / not really old and don't worry too much, but no harm done remaining cautious as always!

Oh, to work things out...

e.g. Heater = 300W
Lights = 80W
Filter Pump = 20W

All these ratings normally stamped somewhere as W OR VA rating...
300 + 80 + 20 = 400W total. 400 / 240 = 1.6A So 5A fuse is more than adequate! Now plug your 1600W vacuum in there and your 5A fuse will blow, but hey, stuff like that shouldn't be plugged into extensions anyway! (and needn't be!)
