I maybe should have put this in the diy section but here goes.

Ive been away from here for a while and shelved my 8ft tank plans for a bit whilst i helped put the last things in place for my wedding.

I have the 8ft tank and have built a stand following a design that i found on the forum.

Now I am limited in my diy skills and have a deep mistrust of anything i have built especially when its going to be holding a tank with 1100 litres in it and all the weight that goes with that. I have been offered 2 4ft Juwel stands for very little money of a mate. Do you guys think that these stands next to each other would be up to holding the weight?

Thanks.

450 litre Juwel Rios which looking at the specs are 5ft not 4 so the stands must be the same.
So they take the weight of 900 litres between them but would they be ok with the weight of 1100?

Thats what I was worried about, as its about 2.5 times what I weigh. Might well say thanks but no thanks then.

I wouldn't advise it,

especially with such a large tank, any slight misalignment or twist between the two stands will create a pressure point in the center of the tank.

I guess you could use them if you were to join them together with a nice thick sheet of ply or a kitchen worktop spanning across both stands.

What plans did you follow for your DIY stand?

There was a thread her ages ago that had a chaps plans for a 5 or 6 foot stand I think that was very compartmentised, so i scaled it up by adding extra "compartments" and a few extra supports.

I have a thread with pictures that I posted here on how I build a tank stand. More importantly it gives some of the whys behind what I do. The whys are what really matters because you can then adjust sizes and get a good design for your situation. I link to my tank stand thread in my signature area.

It wasn't that thread but its basically the same apart from i put the tank on the top and where your long tank is I have strenghtening "ribs".
