I'm about a month away from buying a 75 gallon for my oscar, senegal bichir, and midas hybrid thing. And please, no comments about the midas-thing tearing her tankmates apart... so far she's not nippy at all, and I'm keeping a close eye on her, just incase ;)
Anyway my question is this: what do you think would be the minimum size of a tank that could comfortably house these three as adults? They're all under 6 inches right now, so a 75 gallons will do for quite some time, but I don't think it will be large enough for all three of them forever, will it? I know the suggested size for midas and oscars is 75 gallons, but I figure that's for a single fish...

I'd like a little advice so I know what I should start saving up to buy in the future!

I would definetely get something bigger than a 75 gallon.

P.S. Your little crab pic is strangely in tune with the Korn song I'm listening to right now.... :S

The minnimum for 2 oscars would be 150 gallons so I suppose you'll be needing a 200 gallon tank eventualy - in order to house the midas with the oscar and bichir comfortably.

I don't think so but maybe you should ask in the oddballs section (bichir) and in the cichlids section and see what people there think...

I would be looking at getting atleast a 120g tank to house a oscar and hybrid midas together otherwise there is likely to be some serious conflict in the future. The bichir is fine in anything from a 30g upwards and is probably going to be in danger of being eaten once the cichlids have reached full adult size.

I'd get the biggest tank you can. Obviously within reason, not something like a million pound wall to wall aquarium. I'm being sarcastic, but as I asid, you should go for the biggest tank you can afford.

I'm thinking that a 75 wouldn't cause many probs, just be a bit of a tight squeeze, though actually you should really get a bigger tank. As CFC said, there may me some sqwabbles in the future that may result in bichir being eaten by your cichlids.

Good luck!! :D

PS - Do you breed Bettas??? :fun:

I would not stock those three fish in a 4 foot tank, or even 2 of them for that matter. a 6 foot 125 gallon would be my recommendaion as a minimum. Big fish, especially multiples of them, need space - they may survive in a 75 gallon but is mere survival really enough?

I would think an adult bichir should be fine with those fish, in the right tank.

Not at the moment, but I probably will sometime in the future when I have my own house/apartment ;)

As for the 75 gallon... it will be temporary, which is why I was asking what tank size I should eventually get *lol*
Obviously I wouldn't have asked if I was planning to keep it forever, right?

Thanks for all the comments... I'll probably go with at least a 150 gallon next time I upgrade, and keep the 75 gallon for the bichir
