Tank Shot

Given that i have the same lights, do you think that there is anyway to prevent this, or at least prolong the tube life? Periodic removal of the tubes, maybe? or treating the rubber lamp holders with something from time to time to keep them from going brittle?
Change the tubes now before the problem happens?

Im not really sure Andy, i think because your tubes are the 36 watt version they wont get as intensely hot as the 55 watt version that i use, yours are nearly 20 watts lower than mine so hopefully they wont have the same problem, 20 watts is quite a lot, im going to mount mine differently so hopefully this will help, ive no real other option other than to use them because i would need 6 T8 tubes to give me the same wattage, i might mount a little computer fan in the hood and i would say this will cure the problem, but hopefully you wont have to worry about it, just keep an eye on it and if it all goes wrong there is allways the guarentee, 2 years on the convertagears, dont know about the tubes.

Its surprising how well the littler computer fans work i have two hooked up to a variable voltage adaptor, as they run a little fast and noise at a full 12v.
The temp in the tank is 27'C with the lights on, turn them on and the temp drops to 25'C.
The only problem is the amount of water you lose thought evaporation, i,m losing about 2/3ltr a day in a record 96.

I,m looking at T5 light at mo, and i,ve found digital ballasts at the local electrical suplyer for £15 for a two 38w 4' tubes.
Thema and a hood mod would probably be cheaper.
