Stunning mate, i paticular like the way you have the sword grass and the glosso working together in the for groung and the wood with the moss.

Looking fab, keep the pics coming i think i,ve only seen a few of your tanks, more like a before and after :)

That tank is just beautiful... I love how the foreground "flows" into the mid and backgrounds.
Its very amano like...:hey:

Edit: Would be great if u would kindly take ur time and post an entry in the members planted tanks gallery with all the specs and stuff... A tank like urs not being in the gallery is just silly. :D im sure everyone would want the details of it.

Thanks for the kind words everyone i appreciate it

Jer i will keep in mind about posting it in the members tanks thread, but i sort of seen it as a work in progress and would probably be happier posting it when i had done a bit more work on it or considered it "finished" as such.

But that may happen sooner than i expected as ive hit a major hitch with my lighting, basically my interpet twin T5 lighting fittings are bust, i went yesterday and got a new tube for the old one i had broken and when i went to replace it i couldnt get the old one out, it was jammed solid, the rubber surrounding the fitting had become solid and brittle and made the removal of the old tube virtually impossible, eventually i managed to remove the old fitting and put in the new tube and it worked ok, but then today when the timer came on only one light was working so i suspected the tube again and tried to remove the other tube which is also jammed solid as it turns out and i cannot remove that one either without breaking the fitting or the tube.

Anyway long storey short i emailed aquatics online where i bought the light fittings and complained, the light fitting is guarenteed for 2 years although i have only owned this fitting for 6 months and it is totally %^&*($ but that does not solve my problem in the meantime having only 1.5 WPG over a highlight tank.

So this setups days might be numbered if i cant find a solution or remedy to the problem quite quickly, i think before they will give me an exchange i will have to send the lights back first of all (this is what is stated in the terms and conditions) so the tank will be in darkness for how long i dont know.

Its amazing how dark the tank looks with one light switched off.

So sorry to hear of your trouble mate. You may be ok with 1.5 WPG for a while, remember that week of darkness you had?

I will just have to wait until i hear back from them and hopefully they wont insist that i send the old unit back before they send me a replacement, but i suspect they will, they also state in the tems and conditions that they will only replace stuff by regular mail it will not be dispatched by special delivery so that alone could take ages, as i did a bit of research on the subject today i found that this is a common enough problem with these fittings so it wont be the first time they have encountered this problem or complaint, it just really depends on how awkard they want to be at the end of the day.

Anyway hassle i could do without.

That's a royal pain in the arse dude. :( Wish I could help you out.

p.s. are you the real zig from zig and zag, off the big breakfast?

Heheheh, I'm actually an Englishman. I moved to the US in Feb 2004, been here ever since. :)

awesome, you've got your own song and everything!! anyone remenber that?

This lighting situation is getting rather tricky, they (aquatics online) are insisting i return the light fixture and tubes by regular mail and only then will they give me a refund or a replacement, so sending the goods back by regular mail will mean that the tank will be in total darkness for up to 14 days because even if i send them back today they will not arive until sometime mid next week, they will then have to make a decision whether to refund me or not and only then presuming the outcome is positive will i be able to order the new lights which will take a further 4 days to deliver back to me, and that does not take into consideration weekends etc (or the time of year)

So i dont know what to do, i think i may have to order another set of lights today, what type i dont know, pay for them myself, and then send back the broken unit and tubes, one of tubes still works on the dodgy unit thats why i may be better off holding onto it at least the plants will survive, and then put the refund towards something else.

Not sure what to do really :(

i feel your pain mate. personally if funds permit (time of year again!!) i'd buy a replacement now and deal with the refund later. i'm not sure how much they cost but put it this way should you not get the refund is the lost cash worth saving the tank. if it's £50 then i'd risk it. if it's £150 then i may chance it in the dark.

That's a right PITA, mate.....i'm with Jimbooo on this. Order the fitting, the tank is too nice to risk losing while they sort out the replacement for you......you'll always need more stuff from aquaticsonline so spending the refund won't be a problem!
Have you any old fittings of any kind just to get some light into the tank (old T8's or something?) I've got the old t8's from mine if you want to jury-rig something in the meantime? it won't be pretty but it might work?

Ok i ordered the lighting equipment and will deal with the return and refund later, its the only way out really, so hopefully the order will arrive here by monday at the latest, i did a bit more digging around in the meantime and from what i can gather this is a common problem both with the auctual light fittings and the the tubes as well, i reordered the same light fitting but will mount it differently away from the hood instead of it lying flat against the the hood, i may also incorperate a little computer fan in the hood if i have too to cool things down.

The auctual tubes themselves seem to be particularily problematic in that they erode very quickly and become brittle around the light fitting and if you try and remove them or move them around they will break, the glass part of the tube comes out of its socket really easily and basically the tube is then useless and this is exactly what happened to me, the good remaining tube in my hood (the one still working) has exactly the same problem, basically i can move the glass part of the tube independently of its built in socket by at least a couple of inches and if i try to remove it i will break it, so this time i have ordered ASL tubes which apperantly will fit the interpet T5 fittings and are much stronger and dont erode and can be removed from the fitting easier, they are a different colour temperature but i can live with that (a mix of 7100k and 8000k)

Anyway hassle and expense you definatly do not need.

Given that i have the same lights, do you think that there is anyway to prevent this, or at least prolong the tube life? Periodic removal of the tubes, maybe? or treating the rubber lamp holders with something from time to time to keep them from going brittle?
Change the tubes now before the problem happens?
