Tank Overhang On Stand!

Would a 2Inch overhang front and back of a 6ft fish tank be a problem?

I have a stand that is 1ft in depth by 6ft in width, yet I may be getting a tank that is 4inches deeper than the stand so there would be 2Inches front and back of the stand.

If I put a board on the top of the stand to put the tank on, on some polystyrene, would it be ok?

So long as you put a decent thickness wood, the same dimensions as the tank on top of the stand you should be fine, however, dont quote me on that if it all goes wrong. Personally Id prefer the stand to be the same as the tank to distribute the weight evenly, particularly on something that size.

Personally, with such a large tank, I wouldn't take any risks. The tank and stand should be the same length and width to distribute the weight evenly.
It may well be OK with the board, but just my twopennith.

I bailed out of buying a 4ft tank because the width was half an inch to wide at the front simply because the consequences of it going wrong are unimaginable. Not to mention home and contents insurance WONT cover it with an overhang. You wouldnt be able to get around it because you'd have to state the exact size of the tank and cabinet to be insured. Just not worth the risk in my opinion.
