Hi
Ive got 5 juvie gymnogeophagus Australis which i am aiming to base my community tank around. Current stocking as follows
8x pearl danios
4x glowlight tetra (to be rehomed)
1x sae (to be rehomed)

I will be collecting a trio of albino bn plecos shortly but was wondering what other shoaling fish i could have which would be suitable for the cooling period needed by the gymnos (18-24 degrees C). Preference in colour would be blue - any suggestions?

Although I fear it might get eaten, the common neon can take temps down to 70 deg F. Something a little larger would be Colombian tetras, but they are happiest at temps no lower than 73-74 deg F.

http://fish.mongabay.com/data/Uruguay.htm :) pretty comprehensive list :)

Loads of options on there :) - would need to research some stuff though as things like glass knives not sure how that would fare with the cooling.... but if they are from that area - presumably they should be okay?

Can we get some pics btw :)

Buenos Airies Tetra would be my choice, which should be fine down to 18", Green Swordtails also might work if your looking for something slightly bigger

Great thanks for all the suggestions!

Daveo86 - I have considered the BA tetras but would like a bit more colour iykwim although they would probably be the more sensible option, the lowest I would allow my tank would be 18 so these would be ideal really.

Therev - :good: Columbian tetra - hadn't considered these, I like!! Neon tetras are a no go unfortunately, too small for sure.

Blitz - my tank is from bed surface to the top of the water works out approx 55G....

Hi Wills on the mongabay website I love the Austrolebias bellottii (Argentine Pearlfish) but wouldn't have a clue where to find these, might ask my lfs and enquire. here's some pics I took yesterday I've only had them a week but already the colours are coming out...

The pearl fish are a killie, if I'm not mistaken. So check with local killie clubs, or national as the eggs ship well.
