Tank Mate For My Betta In A 5 Gallon

i'm not worried about my betta trying to nip the endlers fins but that the endlers might try to nip my bettas fin. i had my betta in a comunity tank with longfin danio and other fish and he was never bothered by them, but unfortunately i found him with part of his tail missing, so he moved out... how many male endlers should i have? and if i decide to go for Corydoras pygmaeus, would 4 be an ok number? (aqua one 320 tank, 32 liters) thanks

4 sounds good, though pygmy cories do prefer to be in groups of six.
Maybe about 4 male endlers? They aren't shoaling fish (to my knowledge) so four would be a nice number :good:

Definitely strongly recommend 6 Corys.

As for Endlers, 3 or 4 would work. Is that the one with the dry/wet filter on top, at the back? That will be able to deal with the extra fish, but you might want to take 3 weeks or so to stock up. 3 at a time should be ok if you don't drastically change your feeding.

the filter is in the tank, i will take a pic tomorrow at daylight. Pierre seems to settle in nicely but he appears a bit lonely... or maybe it seems like it because i think the tank seems big with just 1 fish in there...

i think i will wait a couple of weeks before i add fish, but i think i will go for some endlers and have a hunt for corys pygmaeus, never seen them around here, any idea where i can buy them, am in Newcastle, UK. same question for endlers, have seen them in 1 store and the tanks did not look overly clean there...

thanks again and good night

In my experience, the standard rule of adding the most aggressive fish last really applies with bettas. I've kept them with gourami (including honeys), fancy-tailed guppies, young discus, etc. without ever having a problem but they were always added to the existing tank, not allowed to claim the tank as territory and then have "intruders" added. I've never had them show aggression to any new arrivals either, no matter how showy and colorful they were, presumably because they already shared the space and it wasn't "theirs."

If you do it the other way around you have to be careful; hopefully the endlers or cories will be dissimilar enough that he'll leave them alone. I have heard of lone bettas being so territorial that they even attack snails added to their tank though.

The adding fish gradually thing would be a prob for me too if I got Galaxies because I'd order them from Ebay so obviously would get all 6 at once :S

Can you just confirm or disconfirm one thing.. is the filter brand new and you only just added it?

Ark Aquatics have Endlers, often have the Corys too, Harton Aquatics is also worth checking out. Maybe have a look at Sunderland Aquatics too.

I am from South Shields and use Ark Aquatics as well as Harton Aquatics. Both very good. Not the cleanest of shops to go in but the tanks are spot on and i have never had a fish die from any of them unlike pets at home.
