my 55L tank is coming to the end of its cycle, just putting some ammonia in and seeing if it goes in 12/24hours.

but i cant decide what to do with it, any suggestions?

a couple of my ideas were
1. move some fish across from my bigger tank like the cardinal tetras.
2. use it as a breeding tank for pearl gouramis that i have in my bigger tank.
3. put a pair of red honey gouramis and some cherry barbs in there.
4. shrimp tank.

what do you think?

I think the best option is no.4 . Cherries need a bit more than a 55 IMO so do pearls and cardinals.

+1 TallTree.

I would go for a shrimp tank personally, as TallTree said the tank is just too small to to house gourami comfortably.

ok and suggestions other than that?
i do want shrimp but where i am theres not much choice ive only seen wood shrimp, rock shrimp and amano shrimp and id like something more colourful
what about killifish? i dont know much about them other than they get to like 5cm and its best to have like 3F 1M.

There is not much choice. There are so many shrimp. Here is a list
cherry shrimp
Cherry shrimp
bee shrimp
Green shrimp
(cardinia species) Shrimps like orange sunkist, yellow sunkist and velvet
tiger shrimp
Red and Black crystal shrimp

Seeming as we suggest shrimp if you want shrimp. put up a thread about shrimp types in the shrimp section for help and shrimp care

thanks for your suggestion but im going for killifish now :)

Wait, did someone just say 55s are too small for cardinals...have to disagree with that, but I do agree that a shrimp tank would be a nice idea. You wouldn't have to have shrimp only of course, but you could get a nice colony going and then think about some shrimp friendly fish. I've always liked those emerald green shrimp, you could do a variety of red and purple plants and the shrimpmwould pop. Or you could do all green with black substrate and do cherrys or Taiwan. Orrrr if you want to spend a fortune you could get orange eye blue tigers. Or, you could get my personal favorite, cardinal shrimp.
Haha, I know most people here probably disagree with me, but you could even try a pair of discus, that's what I'm planning on doing with my 55. Then with that I'm going to combine my schools of sterbai corydoras from my other tanks and add those. I'll probably throw in some RCS to see if they make it, and then get a couple pairs of GBR. My taps always been too hard, but this shouldn't be a problem if you get RO.

Noah, check again 55 litre, roughly 14.5 U.S. gallons. Too small for Discus.
Great for shrimp.

Discus? -1
I believe neons need 15 gallons. Cardinals get bigger than neons. So need bigger than 15 gallons.

Rather than shrimp you could try crabs for something a bit different. I think there is a fairly peaceful (and small) species called the red clawed crab or something that would probably get on fine with some killifish. Just make sure that they have some sort of dry land to access.

A crab-only setup might be a fun idea, as you say make sure you give them somewhere out of the water that they can access.

But, claws and fins do not mix, the former will, at some point or another, get close enough to the latter to do some damage.

I'd imagine that some of the larger killifish like the golden panchax (if that's how you spell it) would be ok but i'm not sure if they would fit comfortably in a 55L or not. Still i suppose it's better to be safe than sorry.

because of the design of my tank i wont be able to have crabs as the filter is built into the back :/ , im going to go have a look later what fish there are in a couple of my LFSs, ill let you know what happens
