hi
i have a 10g with 2 small angels ,a few platies and guppies (all single sex ) i'm keeping them there till my 40g is cycled and reasy for them, but once they are gone could i move my jewel cichlid in there with a lady friend

As the jewel is my favouite fish i would really like to see them breed, i have a brief idea on how to do it and i've read a few threads that it's worked in and a few that it's not so what do you think ? is the 10 gallon too small for my jewel breeding asperations ? the tank is also 20" x 12" x 12" so it's longer than it is wide/tall thanks for any help

Alex

way toooo small just for even one of them... they can grow to 8 inches...
and for the angels.... i would move them up to a 40 gallon when bigger.

and if u have 6 platies, and 4 male guppies, and 2 angels just for a 10 gallon.... wayyyy to crowded... even if they are small.... the most i would have in there would be the angels and the guppies.. if they are small angels you can get away with it for a bit, but you'll have to upgrade to a 40 gallon soon. i would say move the platies. but then again that is just my opinion.

yeah thats why there in there while the 40g is cycling then there'll be moved into there and i though jewel's maxed out at 5" mine is fully grown at 4 "

with the right conditions the jewels can grow to 8" so i heard. i would breed them in a 20 gallon+ tank. and u must remember what will you do with all the fry? do u already have a place you can sell them and where are you going to keep them for the time being.

Take some mature filter media from the cycled 10 gallon and put it into the 40 gallon filter, it will speed up the cycling process a lot! :)

thanks guys i'll look into a 20 gallon and i'll try putting the media in the 40g thanks
