Hello I’m Gill Bert
New to the Forum, I’m not really big on Forums so this whole concept is very new to me. However, I’m happy to make your acquaintance.

I’m a retired Electrician having worked in and around the Electrical industry for some 50 years + i still have some involvement albeit a very minor role.
I’m Married with 2 x adult Children. We live in SE London.

I was introduced to Tropical fish keeping as a young lad. We had a tropical tank in the family home when i was living at home with my mother and brothers, I’m the youngest of 4.

I have what i would call a challenging aquarium I call it a tower aquarium. At its widest point its about 500mm wide but stands about 1500mm tall so it’s challenging because when i need to clean or carry out maintenance on the bottom of the tank i need to don a wet suit; but it keeps me active🥴
I have an ssortment of fish I call them my ends of lines as when we restock we tend to buy in groups is say 3, 4 or 6 and as the fish pass on we are always left with only 1 or 2 from the original stock. So, a bit of a mixture really ranging from Silver Dollars (large) to platys (small) latest additions, and a Bristle nose Pleco to a Yo yo Loach and Clown Loach. Along with some Angels and so on.

So, there you are a brief intro’

Welcome to TFF :hi:

Oof.. I thought a 45cm tall aquarium was tall 😄

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

The first thing that went through my mind when I read married with 2 children was the tv show with Al and Peggy Bundy (married with children). Hopefully your marriages isn't anything like theirs :)

Hi I’m not familiar with that show, I guess it’s aired on US tv. I’m in the UK. Sorry I should have mentioned that in my Intro’

It's all good. It was on American and Australia tv in the 80-90s and the man of the house (Al Bundy) was a hen pecked shoe salesman with 2 kids that weren't very bright and a horrible wife who used to whine Al. If you didn't grow up with it you probably won't be into it but it was amusing at the time.

:hi:

First thought I had with your tank size was that 500mm does not make for a good environment for the silver dollars which can reach over 150mm, just does not seem horizontally wide enough for swimming room. Same problem with the clown loach which can reach 300mm.

Anyway, enough critique on fish size to tank size. ;) Would love to see an image of your tank!

Hi Gill bert, welcome. I'm new too, but not new to fish.

A "tower" shaped tank is a challenge as you said. I tend to think of surface area or bottom area because of that & not as much how many gallons (or litres) it may hold. Silver dollars are BIG fish I've never kept.

I'm a loach nut, & well, that's just not enough room them. They like groups of at least 5 or 6 of the same species. As bottom fish, your tank is too small. We can help you make better fish choices if you want help. I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

Welcome to the fiorum, Gill... :hi:

This show was also broadcasted in Holland.

Hi Emerald
Thank you for the “welcome”
No I didn’t watch it that series, I don’t recall it being aired in the UK.
