Tackling Ongoing Green Water And Now Finrot!...update Bacteria Inf

Hmm i will get back to you with the plant photo, he just called it lace fern. I was going to trim it but i wanted him to get use o having in in there. Hes been swimming through it. I did try to seperate the stems but i wa sparanoid about snapping the roots off because they were good roots.

I have sand in a bucket in the garage i could put on the bottom if i was to rip out the gravel but im also more than happy to rip the gravel out or just have a thin layer of it. If you see the gravel in the other tank you can sort of see the difference in coarseness and size of gravel.

I blacked out the windows yesterday and am going to do a big water change tmw. might even pull him out for a bit while i do it so i can do it thoroughly. I possibly have some of those pesty snails in the bottom of my other external filters. They seem to always be in the filter when i clean it lol.

It seems like a lot of effort to manitain these two tanks accordng to my fiance' when they are only housing them till i do up our 4ft tank for them but its in the mean time that these issues could get worse :S he doesnt like fishies as much as me.

ok so ive done a massive water change. took out probably 80%. when i was gravel vacing it there wasnt much coming up off the bottom. i took Ramjet out while i did this. his fins are getting worse so i think there is a bacteria infection in there to. it appears to be very agressiv as his fins are disappearing very fast!

theres no signs of fungus or raw scales or fins but his dorsal fin is all together nearlly gone. the photos i posted earlier were from yday and the one i took today he pretty much has no fin left. ive started treating for internal bacteria infections and fin rot. im hoping that by this water change it will increase his fin regrowth aswell. i will post some photos of the plant once theyve uploaded and also his fins :(

hes my pride and joy and he looks miserable!

im going to do a full test tonight once his meds have settled and the water change has turned over.

oh the poor honey! those fins do look aweful. i normally dont suggest meds for fin issues but good call on your part...id say he needs it. i know how diligent you are with w/c and the like. hope he makes a full recovery. is he still eating ok? also keep in mind the filter is in jeopardy when using antibacs....heres for a speedy recovery!!!
and the plant looks an aweful lot like wisteria. were the roots brown and hairy or white and thin? java fern if former-wisteria if latter.
best of luck to you.
cheers

ive had the lights in the room off the last two days and the water is lookin slightly better. he is still eating THANK GOD! im going to turn his light on for a few mins so he can feed then turn it off when i go to work. im planning another big water change in 7 days after the meds have done a weekly treatment. i normally wouldnt use them for any fin rot either but it looks quite aggressive this one :(

the roots of the plant were long and brown and thin..does that hep? -_- if its wisteria i can get a bit of my bogwood from my other tank and tie it down to it.

ive my eye on the tank to see iof it hits a mini cycle aswell if the meds after the filtration.

yeah, i use meds too if i were in your shoes-something id normally not do but obviously this is progressing quickly...how does his fins look now? any slow-down of fin retreat??/
as for the plant...tie it down if it is the java fern. wisteria can and should be planted..do a google of the two and see which one you thing you have. (also, wisteria often sends out new roots higher up the stem from the nodes. these will appear white and long. java ferns look like brown hairy roots, but not always the best indicator as wisteria roots can be brown after a while in the substrate). sorry i cant help further.
