What a fun half hour that was. Luckily we have a wet hoover so it was easy enough to clear everything up but the tanks side pannel of glass is broke. Have to phone the "glass specialists" as they call themselves and get a piece of glass.
The yellow bellied slider is fine though and now in a heated, filtered storage tub.

Fun fun.

I didn't do anything to it. I was just sitting in the kitchen watching him in fact. The legs went from the table. It has been on it for about 5years though so I'm really shocked that it just went like that.
Its a 5.5 ft tank.
He's quite big now so was considering getting him a bigger tank and using that tank for something else.

Got a quote and its £12 for the glass. They said they would seal it too if I bought it down with some glue  the glue goes stringy after a week of water being in it, I said "no thanks, just the glass"

Will pick it up when the boss gets home.

Always something.

This is something i fear most days as my 55g is on a pretty weak stand (i even did some DIY to it to give it extra support).

I'm going to build a new stand. It won't be happening to me again.

wow, 5.5ft tank! i didnt realize it was the stand that broke, but dang. thats some bad luck. i pray nothing like that happens to me! my landlord already isnt too happy about my new hobby!

My girlfriend isn't home yet and also isn't too happy about the hobby but puts up with it.
Going to have to get the ear plugs out.

£12 repair and a bit of silicone is better than a whole new tank...although I guess stand construction comes on top of that... :shout:

I guess this is also a good story on why tanks should have proper stands rather than being put on whatever piece of furniture looks big enough (I know that sounds like a dig, it's honestly not meant to be one! :good: :look: )

Hey I'm with you all the way there. I didn't want it there in the first place but I wasn't allowed another tank in the living room and wasn't supposed to be keeping it in the kitchen (its a long kitchen and I sectioned half of it off for an extra sitting room) but she forgot about it.

I never liked the table anyway. I have the wood already for the new stand. I always keep extra wood left over from other jobs.

Then it sounds like it's all worked out ok in the end. Except for the turtle living in a bucket lol

I do have many more empty tanks but they're only 3ft so there is no point in setting them up. When I'll be able to put him in his normal tank on friday.

The tables gone anyway. Haaaaaaa

£12 for glass? what size is that ( and thick aswell?)

thanks

Cannot remember the size, I left the tank down with the glazer as he was closing up by the time I got there. Its around two ft high and 1.5 ft wide. He said he would get the proper measurements in the morning and have it ready at 9am. Not sure on thickness.
Do you think it was cheap or expensive?

I actually didn't go to the first company I phoned as there was one in the town and it would save a few pound on diesel anyway.
