Do female swordtails chase males when there about to have babies? Since a few months ago, the female has every once in awhile chases the male, but slowly and the male easily gets away. Today, shes running at him like mad. She looks very pregnant, so that might be it. I mean her gravid spot is very dark, but not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks

Iwouldnt thinkt hat she would chase him. Livebearers are known to stop eating, get away from the group, and box off ( their stomach looks like a box) when giving birth. It is possible your female could be over aggressive.

well if she is preg already and the male is trying to put the moves on her.... im sure she is trying to tell him to bug off till she is ready again.. so thats prob why she chases him away. Also too, if she knows she is about to give birth, then she may be shooing him away to try and protect them a little from the male eating them.

Ox :good:

Are you still talking about fish???

Well, her stomach is starting to get box like, but certainly not stopped eating. I usually leave a piece of zucchini in the tank for the algae eaters and shes eating it now. Been eating all day in fact. She barely ever will stop.
