Hi all! I have a large HOB filter on my 55 gallon (US) community tank. However, I have noticed that the performance of the filter has not been as great lately. I was told when I purchased the tank (it was a package deal) that I may have to replace the filter. I am interesting in getting a new filter now, before the quality gets any worse.

Here are my questions:
1 - What type of filter would you recommend for me? I was thinking a canister filter, but I don't know much about them and would appreciate any recommendations (I live in the states)
2 - How would I go about switching from one filter to another? I was thinking I would run both for about a month to build up the bacteria in the new filter. Would that be okay?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi
I see you can get Eheim canister filters in the US

I thoroughly recommend you get one of these Eheim Classic range workhorses. They are virtually bullet proof and spares are readily available.
As for transferral of media I personally would just do a straight swop and incorporate all the media from the HOB into the canister of the Eheim
Hope that helps
