Hi everyone,

I have almost convinced myself to purchase a pressurised Co2 system, (and have included list and links to what I am looking to buy in #4 post) I would like to use a solenoid so the Co2 is turned off at night to minimise Co2 wastage. The only thing I am worried about is the PH swing that will be caused as a result of the Co2 being turned off and on every day

Please can someone with the knowledge advise me if the daily swing in the PH would be enough to harm the fish at all?

Nothing to worry about.

Thanks, I will get it on order then :)

Does this sound about right? Co2 comes on 1 hour before lights on, then Co2 goes off 90 mins before lights out?

How does this look for a shopping list to put together a FE Co2 set up, have I missed anything?

(most of the links in the DIY Co2 thread are not working so I thought I would put some new links up)

Co2 Working Pressure Adjustable Solenoid Regulator
FE 2kg Co2 Tank
Bubble counter
Non Return Valve
Glass CO2 Diffuser
Clear CO2 Proof Tube

All this adds up to £116.42, I would like to order everything in the new year but wanted to post the list on here just incase I have missed anything or incase anyone can give any better options for the required parts to put a FE Co2 set up together.

Bump, any Co2 experts here able to tel me if my shopping list looks ok?? (in last post)

I would like to order everything ASAP and dont want to waste money :good:

looks good to me! :good:

I would go with maybe one of these diffusers though

a few quid extra, but you get better diffusion from them.

Not actually a bad price for the whole setup mate... :) How long would the FE last on your sized tank? Seeing as mine is 180 litre i may consider ordering the same list as you :D

Thanks, I will go with that diffuser then :good: My only worry is about the regulator/solenoid as its from China :/
Trying to find a regulator/solenoid from a UK company with a 3 pin plug would be better.

It is a good price  I was thinking of running it on the puffer tank because I think it would benifit from Co2 more than my main tank, I guess that FE would last a while on the puffer tank. I just now need to decide weather to order that regulator/solenoid or not :/

And whether to add salt or not...

I may also consider running co2 on my puffer tank tbh, but first i would need to run higher light.

You could grow some fantastic plants with the amount of light you could have with your twin 39w!!! You will need some PLUS range fertiliser though like TPN+ etc.

Deciding on the salt is becoming a pain :grr: I am trying to find out what plants will grow in brakish water and look nice in the tank.
Also I am dosing TPN+ at the moment in both tanks so adding some Co2 should help the plants along nicly.

Co2 Working Pressure Adjustable Solenoid Regulator
looks good, but I will give a little word of warning, and maybe it was just mine, but I got one of those all in one solenoids/regulators and the solenoid which I had is the same as that one you are linking to, broke within 3 months, and as they are sealed units I could not clean or repair it, so had to spend another £20 on a new solenoid. Not saying that happens with all of them and maybe it was just mine, but be aware the asia sellers normally only give a 30 day guarantee.

I agree with ian with the diffuser, I got one and they are good.

Some people do this but I have never understood why. My Co2 comes on an hour before the lights do and switches off when the lights do (a min before or after but you get the point lol) In everything I have read and researched I have never seen anything which says the plants require less co2 after a certain amount of time. In short I'd suggest keeping the co2 for the amount of time you have the lights on

I have now changed my shopping list after advice from various members so here is my new one;

FE 2kg Co2 Tank
Co2 Regulator
Solenoid
Bubble counter
CO2 Atomizer
Non Return Valve
CO2 Proof Tube (2m)

So the price is now £118.12 but this does not take into account postage for the Regulator and Solenoid, I am awaiting a price for the shipping from Germany for this, I assume it will be around £15 but could be more.

Once I receive everything I will set it all up and be back for more advice :good:

EDIT; I received confirmation from the German seller of the Regulator and Solenoid and combined postage to the UK is 14.50 Euro's. (£12.14 in todays exchange rate)

So the total price for the whole set up is £130.26, I guess this is a good price as you get everything you need and the 2KG FE should last a long time before you have to refill.

im also after a co2 system for my tank.
i would prefer to get this in one package as opposed to sourcing parts separately. Ive seen this, any thoughts on whether its worth paying the extra for this setup?
