Well lady's and Gentlemen, its finally time to start this journal!

For a few weeks now I have been researching into how to get a larger tank for cheap, well that's just not even possible... Or so I thought. I began looking into different options, first was a full glass tank, but those are crazy expensive for the size I wanted and not to mention super heavy. Next I thought about doing a acrylic tank, while they are far lighter and slightly cheaper then glass they are a lot harder to build and eventually bow. I was in a rut, until a local friend brought up the idea of a plywood tank. The pro's to a plywood tank are they are VERY CHEAP to build, if you have ever built a box before you can build the tank, the cons are its not as heavy as glass but not as light as  acrylic. I started doing hours of research, how would I seal the wood so it wouldn't rot, how would I design a viewing window, what was fish friendly and not, how big of screws should I use? all questions I took into a lot of thought. Well I now have answers to all my questions and even stumbles on a lot of good tips from people who have built these before.

I decided to build my stand first, and so far have got all the measurements ready and will be getting all the wood for the stand build by thursday. So far the measurements are as followed. KEY: L= Length W= Width H= Height S= Support  04x= 4 pieces needed of that size.

04x  L 61"
12x  W 36"
08x  H 27"
08x  S 20"

BigT:

I'm planning on getting a nice catfish for it and some other that've fish ( unsure of ) to go with it. Also thinking maybe possibly a single ray?

Nope. No idea. You should show more pictures so I'll have a better idea. :p

It means you have a Home Depot near you.

Hmm.. BLF has not commented here :p

Exciting pics! Can't wait to see more.

Well last one for the night, it's 1am and roomies are sleeping now so don't wanna make them mad.

Pre drilling holes so the wood does it crack. I used a 1/16 drill bit, I should have went one size smaller.

In this pic you can see the countersunk holes. This is not necessary as its more for looks as all it does is allow the screw to sit flush in the wood. HOWEVER I want my tank to be a show piece so no cheaping out. For this I used a 3/8 countersink bit, and for screw I used 8x2 1/2 builders screws. Also it only shows 2 holes, but I later put a third in each board.

And finally finished products, well top and bottom of the stand that is. Tomorrow I need to re arrange my room so that it will fit somewhere so I can continue building. Think I should have went bigger still :p

Looking good, can't wait to see the finished result!

Lol you know it BLF :p

Something I noticed was I made a big mistake on the top piece. If you look at the pic of them assembled I have one side screwed together a different way lol
