Suggestions For Small Fish?

Hiya guys,

I didn't put this in any section (livebearers, kilifish etc) as I'm open to all sorts of suggestions!

I've recently moved my betta to a new (cycled, tested) 50L tank as he was getting a bit raggedy in my 100L community.

I like the idea of a nice shoal or two of tiny little fish, but am struggling for ideas.

I know you never know until it happens but the betta is a very chilled out old guy who has tolerated gouramis, tetras etc for a long time. There are cherry and amano shrimp already in with him and he's never shown signs of chasing or eating them, in fact in his old tank they managed to breed.

I like endlers livebearers but they're quite expensive and hard to find round here, and I'm worried about the possible betta/guppy-type conflicts. I'm also tempted by galaxy rasboras but I'd like to know what my other choices are?

Where is "here"?

There shouldn't be any conflicts with enders because they do not have the fancy tails that guppies do.

How about a group of 8-10 dwarf or pygmy Corys? And a school of 8-10 ember tetras or espei (not harlequin!) rasboras?

What about Chilli Rasbora? Look fantastic in shoals of 12 or more.

What colour is your betta? Might be nice to get a complimentary colour. Ember tetras and chilli rasboras both lovely red, but neon green rasboras are also pretty and very small (get called emerald rasboras in my lfs).

Sorry! 'Here' is Leicestershire, UK. The only place I've seen endlers is Pets At Home and they're very, very tiny, maybe 1cm at most. Obviously if anybody knows where I can get some semi-locally that would be fantastic.

I already have cories in my 'big' tank on sand substrate, but I'm hesitant to in the 50l as I'm using gravel.

The betta is a standard veiltail, red fins and black/purple body. Hence why I was umming and aahing about the galaxies as I thought their blue-purple colour might blend in too much.

The only types of rasbora I can seem to find around my area are harlequins and 'copper', so I'll definitely have a look at any other sorts, Thanks!

Copper Rasbora's will be either Trigonostigma hengeli or Trigonostigma espei, both max out at about 3-3.5Cm, if you want small Rasbora's try the Boraras genus, but go for the larger species such as Boraras briggitae and Boraras maculatus, they both max out at about 2cm, most Maidenhead aquatics carry at least one of the two at any one time, if not they'll order them in for you.

It is! About half an hours away. Fantastic news, I thought my nearest was the one in Oakham so that's great to know.
