Finished building my 5ft, got everything plumbed in, thought it would be quite funny to put my sons goldfish from the kitchen into it

They think their christmases have all come at once! Now I'm guilty to put them back LOL

Dont worry, the heaters arent on......

Im not sure, their memory seems brilliant when theres food involved...

Anyone watch mythbusters? They did a test where they had to train goldfish to swim through a maze or something to get to the food but i cant remember whether it worked or not...

There is a radio commercail that says that they only have a 3 second memory span.

The tank is about the right size for 3 goldfish anyway they shouldn't be housed in anything smaller as it causes them to have very low water quality (due to them being messy and a smaller water body external filtration is the only method to sustain the pristine water quality they thrive in), incomplete development of organs to full adult size and inadequate swimming space causes a build up of fatty tissue (like an obese human without enough exercise) instead of muscle growth causing all the illnesses you expect to be related to that.

IIRC new scientist had an article on goldfish a year or two ago and memory length was around 8-10 months in those fish tested in the study.

the 3 second memory thing spans from us...we have an average memory of 77 years (the average age in the UK which you live) they then took the mass of the human brain of around a 1000 people and then repeated on full grown goldfish...they then compared the mass of the human brain to its memory and then using the same proportions concluded that a fish has a 3 second memory because of the size of its brain
