Just a quick point about that site, I stumbled on it a few times when researching brackish and found the advice there just plain wrong.

Their advice was that you shouldn't use marine salt for brackish because it tends to raise the pH (to the level it should be at... :/ ). They recommended aquarium salt. Some people had pointed that this was plain wrong and their response was "Our mate has a brackish tank and he said to do it to stop the pH rising, so we won't change our advice".

With regards to kids and fish...It all depends on the kid. If you can control the buying and stocking then you can have a tank that has a larger buffer limit (heavy planting, oversize filter, light biolad) fo if anything is 'missed' whether intentional or not.

I think a lot of it depends on the parents. I know some of you have been saying 'my child decided it by themselves', but in the end the parents influence it. Although not really in my case :) Take my sister. She's 9 (I think...) and has the attitude of most people who don't keep fish, ie. Thats a pretty fish, get that one for your tank. She has been influenced by my parents to think that fish grow to the size of the tank etc etc, and even started leering at me when the sign on the elephantnoses said 'Grow to xinches but will adapt to smaller tanks'. Whereas me... I was not influenced by my parents. I've always liked fish (whether it be to eat or otherwise:)), but before I got/considered stocking my first tank, which was one of those stupid 3gallon 'goldfish tanks', I did independant research on the net.Which considering everything I found out went against what a big company had told me in the accompanying leaflet means something I was thinking a moment ago but have now forgoten. Damn. I'll edit if I think of it..

i really dont see why you think this absolutely bad advice. first its an outside pond which explains the green water. second a child can learn to take care of fish. Kids dont need a 250 gallon tank to take care of. my 5 year old little cousin could perform a water change on a 10 gallon as long as you helped him do the siphon. everyone is so against imperfect care of fish but how do you expect anybody to get into the hobby without starting somewhere. not everybody has to be an educated expert to enjoy the hobby

i started keeping bettas when i was 9-10 years old i used to keep them in those little hexs but i have always fed them right i never over or under fed them,i gave them a pinch of bettamin and they lived for 2 years(except zack the one week wonder).im 14 now so yeah.

What about feeding your fish until they can't eat anymore? surely you don't agree with that? Your average fish shouldn't get more than 4fish flakes a day, but if i fed my mollys for example until they stopped eating they'd probably go through 30 fish flakes...
You are more likely to kill your fish or make them sick by feeding them until they stop.
