my girlfriend has a baby biorb with a few white cloud minnows in it and was just on the phone in hysterics cos she'd gone up to her room and couldnt find one of them, then noticed one was stuck against the filter, theres a tiny gap between the bubble tube and where it clicks in to the orb and it was stuck in there, presumably sucked in?

she switched it off and let it free, but currently its just really floating on the top of the tank giving the odd twitch. It will be her first fish to die so naturally she's quite upset!

It had to be the one she'd named after me too!

It is still alive at the moment though, any tips for helping it survive?

If it was sucked to the filter and wasn't able to free itself, there was probably something wrong with him in the first place. Usually, the force isn't strong enough that they would get stuck, and if they did, they could easily wriggle their way free from it. Only fish who have trouble swimming could possibly get sucked to a filter and not be able to free itself. They don't design filters that have enough suction to suck a healthy fish in. It's probably going to die, sorry. :( Keep an eye on the others.

oh right, oh dear. It was swimming about actively about 15 minutes before it happened!

i thought she meant it was floating on its side but she says its floating at the top, but is the right way up in a normal swimming position.

Oh well only time will tell

If there only minnows in there add three teaspoons in a jug of tank water, stir till it disolves, then add to the tank.

Sorry lol salt not funny but tired, it will help the fish with the stress of the ordeal.

well the fish survived the night, it's starting to swim a bit more than it was but i went down to see it today and noticed it has developed a white fur like patch on its back and it never erects its dorsal fin properly like the other minnows do, any ideas what this could be?

yup, fungus it's a secondary infection from the shock of yesterday, easily treatable though.

get some pimafix and does with that every day for a week :good:

ah right, i suppose thats good news then that its something treatable :)

ordered some pimafix so will hopefully do the trick!

thanks :)

yeah it's not brilliant news but not awful either, you need to start treatment asap though, when you say you've ordered some pimafix, how long do you think it'll be before you get it??

in the mean time make sure the water quality is tip top with water changes etc

yea well it's good news to us that there's some hope cos i'd presumed it was a gonner for sure!

it's next day delivery, i wont be somewhere with a fish shop til friday so it'll be here quicker than picking it up myself.

yea the waters in top condition, i'll make sure she keeps it that way :)
