Strange Stuff On Plants

Our small tank which is heavily planted has a couple of quite large patches of 'stuff' on the top of some of the plants.

I can only describe it as what looks like the result of some heavy coughing after a very poorly chest. Ie. a big flem except it's a turqoise type colour and spread/stretched across multiple branches.

What is it? Strange type of algae?

Nasty ! I'm no expert on these matters, but I'd put my life savings on what you describe being a type of algae.
Other opinions will no doubt be forthcoming !

Cyanobacteria (aka blue-green algae).
It's nasty when you get it in your tank as it's a real pain to erradicate.
Have a look at some articles on it. I'm still not sure exactly how to get rid of it, and no one knows exactly what causes it.

Doesn't look nice at all, at first I thought you were talking about hair algae lol but this is some next level algae
Isn't there any way to get rid of it like scavenger fish eating it

Defo Cynobacteria, It is not a type of algae it is actually bacteria (As implied in the name) you should remove it/leaves with it on as soon as you can because it has been known to release toxins into the water, very bad for your fish !
