Recently I have noticed strange think in my pearl gouorami. It has developed 2 shades. Front part is lighter in colour and the rear is bit darker. You can see a straight line right in the middle where the sudden change happens. I have marked it with red arrows at the top and bottom.

I have never seen this before. Is this normal? Has anyone come across something like this before. Do I need to be concerned about this.

Never seen that before. maybe the "slime" coating over the fish's scales is damaged on one of the regions. Or slightly thicker/thinner at the front or back.

does it seem ill in any way? Id leave it if its happy.

P.S. How did you get the arrows to stay on your fish?

could this be a fungus??? what are your water stats?

Checked water a few days ago and everything was normal.

Fish seems normal. Normal swimming behaviour, feeding normally.

I have noticed it is fine sometimes (normal colour throughout) and partially coloured other time. Maybe it is getting stressed by something. I haven’t seen any particular reason why it should.
I have 3 male pearl gouramis, 2 female, 7 angels, 2 zebra loach and a gold fish (odd one out).
They are all very peaceful and haven’t seen any male’s chasing this female. I have had this female for about 2 year. I got it with the tank when I bought it. I have never seen this before. It’s just recently that this change has happened.
Regarding the red arrows in the picture, I have edited the picture using MS Paint.

its an iridovirus infection

Infected fish develop a variety of symptoms, including loss of color, decrease in activity and appetite, the appearance of sores and lesions on the body, abdominal swelling and finally death. This fish disease is highly contagious, completely untreatable and invariably fatal.
