Hi guys
I have a 30 gallon aquarium which i've been thinking of stocking with some cool preds
now, i don't want anything that's hard to take care of, but i want a pred, or possibly school of preds, that looks really nice
I've been looking at fish like Crocodile fish (not many people know what they are), Ropefish, and bichirs, but from what i've looked at so far, the ropefish is the only one of the three that i could have, even though the tank is smaller than recommended...

So basically i'd like something that gets to a good size
looks good
easy to moderate care
and is able to go into the 30 gallon

Any ideas? i'm open to suggestion, just list me off some fish!

Depending on the dimensions you may possibly be able to have a senegal polypterus, but like I said depends on dimensions. I wouldn't get ropefish as they grow too big and need to be in groups.

One of my favourite predators is the rainbow wolffish, which you could also look into getting (though mixed opinions on tankmates).

it's a long tank, i can't remember the dimensions exactly, but i was told a bichir would be fine, so i'm tempted to get one of them
Also, wolf fish are an awesome fish, but all of the ones i looked up seem to get huge... way too big for a 30 gallon!

Not a rainbow wolffish (Erythrinus erythrinus), 30 gallons would probably be the absolute minimum for one though.

Around 8", they are also pretty active for a wolffish too.

ooooooooo... SO tempting... any prices?
i'd love to get one if they were at the lfs...
they have all of the fish i listed earlier (ropefish, croc. fish, bichir (sen.)), and i got all of the prices
how does a sen. bichir do in a 30 gallon... I've read they get from 10-12"? I was obsessed with getting one actually, they're what got me into fish keeping. Took a huge step back once i read they're carnivores, but i'd like to try them out now

You not considered a piranha?

You could keep a small serrasalmus in a 30G such as a sanchezi.

i can't handle piranha... i find them way too boring, until feeding
and even then they're not that lively!
now they're cool to watch sometimes, but i'd find they'd get too boring for my liking for keeping

Your thinking too much of pygocentrus piranhas, serrasalmus (which is what sanchezi are) interact alot with you when they settle in.Mine has a great personality, chases fingers, swims across the room to where I am, follows me around, alsorts.

The solitary species are ALOT more entertaining than pygo's :good:

well straydum... i already commented on that forum before you sent it to me :P
also, about the piranha, i still don't like piranha... lmao
i think i'm gonna get a bichir... just gonna see what people say about them first

I would suggest a zebra spiny eel. They only grow to 7 in. They aren't very expensive. The ropefish would be pushing it. :shifty:
