How many full grown platies can go in a ten gallon (37.85L) tank?Is there any system of the size of fish per gallon or something?

depends on how often you feed them and how many water changes you do. Also what type of filtration is on the tank.
if you don't want to breed them and you feed the fish once a day and do a 50% water change each day, you could have 50 adult platies in that size tank. However, if you put a little bit too uch food in the tank or missed a water change, you would probably lose most of them.

I would say about 10 adults in a 10g tank and that would allow them to produce a few young and you could feed them once or twice a day and do a partial water change each week.
Monitor your nitrate levels and if they are going up rapidly then do more water changes, or reduce the food or number of fish in the tank.
The same applies to PH, if it goes down rapidly then do more water changes or reduce the load on the tank.

50 Platies in a 10 gallon, are you serious?!
from above

Just don't put 10 or 50 platies in 10gal. as they can succumb to its death from overcrowd stresses and diseases. A 10gal will be permamently home to a trio or four of adults plus their babies as long as you find other home for the fry.

Okay thanks I think I'll try the ten platies and little too much food.

Woah! That's too many platies for 10gal, especially with preggers. I SUGGEST you to stock the 10gal with 4 or 6 platies, not 10 adult platies. Why you need 10 adult platies for? Females are already pregnant anyways so 10 platies with too many fry will lead to overstocking. I think you are better off with just four females and one male with few juvies so its easy for you to handle.

50 platies sounds rediculous, even when feeding and cleaning is to a good standard as you said. I wouldn't even put 20 full-grown platies in a 10 gallon.

I thought 50 sounded a little out of the ordinary. I think I'll stick with what i have. :good:

You could have quite a few if you had all females.

The ones that are already pregnant would give birth, bring the males back to the shop and keep the females. Easy.
