Hello,

This weekend I'll be getting my 55 gallon tank finally and I have been trying to plan out the stocking of said tank. I was hoping people could me some input on this. It will be running a 60 gallon whisper filter as well as a 30 gallon whisper filter. You can never have to much filtration. Now i do have a few things already that i need to move over but wont do so until it is cycled. So this is my plan....

1- Angel (Already Have) Max 12 Inches
2- Dwarf African Frogs (Have 1) Max 3 Inches Each
1- Banjo Catfish Max 6 Inches
4- Tiger Barbs Max 3 Inches Each
2- Albino Tiger Barbs Max 3 Inches Each
6- Flame Tetra Max 1 1/2 Inches Each

Now if i have done my math properly then that would come that would come to 51 inches of fish at adult sizes. Now i would like to ask opinions.... Do you thing think these speices (sp?) will be able to co exist peaceful? Do you think that with all the filtration I would be able to get away with slightly over stocking if i wished to add something else? If so by how much? Do you think that the filtration will be enough or should I up the sizes? Do you think i have over estimated for the Angel because someone did try to tell me that i was? I really want to add a dwarf puffer (fw) to this mix as well. Please let me know what you think. I really would like input on all of these aspects. PLease Respond.

Thank You,

Alex

I wouldn't get any Tiger Barbs at all especially because they are very nippy. They are also very agressive and will attack lots of other fish...like your angel.

See i have read that as well, but i also read that if you keep them in a large enough group (6+) then they will be more distracted with each other. Does anyone have any exsperience with this? Thank you for your reply.

In the past my tiger barbs have done well in a community tank with minimum aggression. I had a school of 6 in a 33 gallon. But this situation is not written in stone, you really just have to try and see. In terms of the Dwarf Puffer, I would'nt add any. They are a thousand times worse then the tiger barbs could ever be. The puffers are nice and fun to watch swim around, but they will nip at everyones fins.

No problem, once you get another tank I would suggest Dwarf Puffers as they are awesome little fish.

That is definately what i will be going for. Well once I transfer over my fish to the bigger tank, ill have a 10 gallon that will become available that i havent decided what to do with yet. Maybe ill put a dwarf in there.... hmmm decisions decisions.

I keep mine in a group of 8 and they are still agressive towrads other fish.

Is the eight you have in the 20 gallon tank you have listed in your profile? If it is do you think it is possible its because they are in close quarters if you go by the 1inch per gallon rule? Does anyone think that space and territories would stifle agression. Thank you for responding.

Bigger the tank the better. There are other barb species that are colorful and are'nt as aggressive. You could try rosey barbs. odessa barbs, or gold babrs.

After Doing Some More Reading, I Definately Wont Be Adding The Banjo Catfish :( They Need A Sandy Bottom But My Tank Will Have Gravei.

They do prefer sand, but I have seen them do well in gravel. If theres is some plants and caves in the tank they do ok.

Thank You For The Replies... It will be a heavily planted/ ornamental tank.... Kind or sad thou... What cant all the fish i really like just get along because i said so lol.
