Ok, so I have a 30gallon Amazon type setup semi soft and acidic water, plenty of bogwood and a few live plants.

I currently have 2 medium sized angelfish, 3 neons (I know they could be potential food items sooner or later), a Bolivian Ram, 7 cories (trilineatus and skunks), and an oto.

I want to add a couple more fish, preferrable mid to top swimmers, and they don't necessarily have to fit in with the Amazonian/South American theme.

Any ideas on a beautiful, active, and compatible one or two fish that I could put in my tank?

Normally for surface fish that stay at the surface, I would suggest Marbled Hatchets.

THat's a good idea, I've always liked hatchets... How do you guys think a pearl gourami or two would do?

Well I can only recommend what I've got experience of, and that's not a lot to be honest. I've currently got a nice male gourami and he's fantastic. Mine is very peaceful and quite graceful. Great fish.

Today I just swapped my Yellowtail Rasboras (a very very active and peaceful fish) with some Black Skirt Tetras. Great fish I would recommend.

I think the angelfish and gourami's could have territorial issues with each other as both can be territorial fish at times (particularly depending on what the fishes genders are) and both like to occupy the same sort of habitat.

I would recommend getting some more oto's, and if you are planning on keeping the neons for now, it would also probably be good to get some more neons as well as it is recommended that you keep neons in groups of at least 5-6+ and oto's in groups of 3-4 or more :thumbs: .

Why not try some bristlenose catfish though :) ? They come from the amazon and so would fit in your south american theme biotope tank;

get some swordtails they add colour and they have some funny personalities and i think there from the amazonian area

and i have gouramis in my tank with angel fish and they are fine but just incase have some good hiding spots for them to relax in

gd luck

Wouldn't adding an Asian fish ruin the whole amazon biotope thing?

Yeah, but I had said earlier on I wasn't too concerned with keeping everything strictly Amazon... Just want something that looks good and is compatible. There just isn't too much out there to keep the Amazon thing going. Take out cories and plecos (which I already have) and tetras (which aren't too interesting) and there isn't much left.
