Have to disagree. When I had all males the fighting between them was constant, all of them swirling in a ball around each other day and night. Added females, problem solved. (Apart from the annoying fry.)

I've also had cherries in with rams, apistos, and now in a tank with just a dwarf gourami. I've seen them following shrimplets with interest but they totally ignore adult shrimp.

When I had 3 male guppies they were fine with each other. Hence the advice.

Caz and hanny93 both had apisto's and they have removed a fair few shrimp.

At the end of the day its down to each fish's personality and temperament... You may drop lucky, you may drop unlucky.

Yes, and my guppies were not fine, hence my advice. Like you say, it's luck and personality.

Thanks for all the advice,

My tank has cleared its first lot of ammonia today so the fishless cycle is well on its way

Have to decide on what plants I will have now?? and hopefully the piece of bog wood thats in my bath will stop leaking tannin one day, so it can go into the tank!!

Don't be put off by the tannins, they're very good for the fish and the natural look.
