Stocking Question

Hi,

Whilst my tank is fishless cycling I am planing my stocking list so I can get them all in once the cycle has finished.

Tank size is 200l and will be planted, list as follows;

Electric Blue Ram x 4
Neon Tetra x 15
Guppys x 5
Julii Cory x 6

Could I also keep any shrimp or snails with this stocking list?

Any help/advice much appreaciated

even though it's a big tank I wouldn't put 4 rams in it. Once they mature the males will fight. They'd be best kept as a pair. You'd still have room for a trio of apistos if you want more cichlids.

Personally I'd leave out the guppies - or if you really want them limit them to males only so you don't end up with an infestation.

You can up the number of corys. A shoal of 10 or 2 shoals of 6 would look really nice.

Also be aware of the health problems associated with neon tetra and neon tetra disease. Look at rasbora like emerald sunset celestials etc for a nice alternative shoaling fish.

I dont mind just having 2 rams, how many apistos would I be able to keep? bearing in mind I allready have 5 male guppies in a 10G tank which will go into the new tank, because I would like to buy a Betta for the 10gal.

Also I would like a group of shoaling fish so if its best to keep away from the neon tetra, what other options would I have? (I searched emerald sunset celestials but cant find anything!)

So new stocking list;

2 Blue Rams (male and female)
5 Guppys (all male)
10 Corys
And I need ideals for a group of shaoling fish, x15 (I had my heart set on Neon Tetras, but if they have issues I wont bother )

Any other sugestions welcome, I want to get the stocking right.

If it's the colours of neons you like, go for cardinals.

To be honest I've had neons for years and never encountered neon tetra disease. Get them from a reputable source and they should be fine.

You could keep a trio of apistos (1 male 2 female) just make sure they have a cave or 2.

Would a shoal of 15 be ok or would I get away with 20?

This list looks good to me, with a little alteration; what do you all think?

Apisto's don't have to be kept in a harem, a pair will be fine, especially with 2 rams sharing the same area of the tank... Would be to much hassle with potentially 3 breeding females...

Snails will be fine, unsure on the shrimp, cherries would be too small, amano would be ok I guess?

You can keep the guppies, just not my cup of tea.

I would go for something a bit more snazzy and show stopping than a bristlenose.

Tiger Pleco looks very nice,

Details taken from a website that sells them;

"This pleco requires driftwood for hiding places and as a wood eater driftwood is an essential part of it’s diet along with vegetable matter"

I will have a piece of bogwood in the tank so would this be classed as driftwood?

Id agree with the first person, rams need alot of space, maybe replace them with 2 dwarf gouramis?, they'll look nice, snails and bottom feeders are always good!, i like corys but you could have apple snails, all good, shrimp are good aswell, especially cherry shrimp

For your guppy problem, it might be good to tone down the number of them or just watch them carefully. If there are no females about they may fight amongst each-other or with other fish.
