I was just thinking the other day how many fish is too many fish for 1 aquarium in your opinion? In lets say these sizes

20G
30G
50G
75G
90G
125G
150G
220G

I would say a fish for every ten gallons sounds about a good rule of thumb, unless dealing with large fish such as tangs and angels...

What do you guys think?

In my 150G Reef I have...
Clownfish False Per.
Clownfish False Per.
Green Chromis
Green Chromis
Green Chromis
Green Chromis
Azure Damsel
Yellow Tang
Hippo Tang
Powder Blue Tang
Clown Tang (very tiny, hopefully it will learn to live with his tank mates and not be agressive older)
Midas Blenny

Everybody seems to really love it, I couldn't admagine having any more fish.

I think it totally depends on the size and species of the fish. It is all relative. Some fish need more room than others, some are messier eaters, etc.

I am gonna make mine look like the goldfish tank at petco.

LOL J/K :fun:

ha ha thats really rediculous i saw it at my local petco and im not sure but they dnt have a sump to increase water volume, so how could the fish b safe or happy i guess they dnt care, i really felt bad for the petco by me their saltwater fish all had horrible deseases like fit rot and the cotton ball growths, and they wernt treating em so it got way outs hand, like baaaad...... i wanted to buy 1 just to help it back to life then sell it but i had no money ;( all the tangs wer really bad, the damsels like had a day left, the clowns well on the bottom, sad... lol but my 30g can hold lots of inverts and 5 fish but im gonna get a big sump so i can have mroe water volume for more fish, depends on what your tank accesories are...

Remember that fish also need territory's not just an increase in water qty (SUMP)

Also the fish in Petco are only there for a matter of weeks not for life

ya i nkow but, some were lready dead, and since they wernt treating them i didnt want em to suffer, it just ive neevr seen a fish that looke like a giant scab, when it was supposed to be a panther grouper... the bangaii cardinals 2 of em wer at the bottom with no fins wasting away there fins were completely gone, but ya i know sump doent increase alot of fish room since the tank doesnt get bigger, but you can add more corals and snails and maybe 1 or 2 more fish right? if it turned into a 40 gallon setup so 6-7 fish in all....

I think six to seven fish in a 30 gallon tank is to many, this is just my personal belief but there is just not enough room. I may be misunderstanding the point of a sump but Its not something that the fish swim in so it just allows you to keep your water quality better, I think that maybe we should not think of ourselves by getting as many fish as we want but think of the fish and how to keep them happy, that is my definition of a responsible owner. just because I can feed 30 dogs does not mean I should have 30 dogs. this is not meant to flame anyone but a pet is a pet and our job as pet owners is took keep our animals/fish/reptiles happy healthy and safe not just do what ever we want just because we think we can. Sorry if I come off like a jerk but it seems like alot of people come on here ask for advice and when the experienced members share their knowledge it is just ignored until they have another problem which is usually a result of the former information not being used!!!

You sig worries me, you say you have a 30g (US G) but you have a

'Blue Tang' listed - regardless of type & its size, a tang requires way more water/swimming space than a 30g will allow

Blue Star
- i take it you mean a Linckia IMO these are one of the worst star's to buy as they have a tendency to fall apart after months of looking fine

Seahorse - Not suitable for a community tank amonst other difficulties you would face keeping these sensative animals

:good:

no totally understood, i was just taking that previous advice that if i dont get territorial fish and i get a 10g sump that i can get more fish... so im t\not sure since alot of different opinions are on this forum... like i know i have put stuff in the sump too, like mantis shrimp or cool things that i cant put in my tank....
