Fish Herder
I'm interested in moving some fish between my two tanks, a 60 gallon and a 29 gallon.
My 29 gallon has 10 neon tetras, 4 blue danios, one female bn, one farlowella catfish, and pair of bolivian rams. I put black gravel in and the color of the bolivians is just drab. The neons look great against the black.
My 60 gallon has 5 congo tetras (I'll up this to six soon), one male bn, 2 angel fish, 5 albino cories, pair of cuckatoo dwarf cichlids and one borelli dwarf cichlid... oh and two nerite snails and 3 amano shrimp. I know the shrimp are at risk with cichlids but right now the cichlids are all small. This tank has natural colored silica sand.
So please comment:
1. I would like to move the bolivian rams to the 60 gallon so that I can better enjoy their color. Now that would be two breeding pairs on the bottom, the cuckatoos and the bolivians. Trouble? Oh I should add that the footprint is 12 inches by 49 inches so 4 square feet. And it is planted up and it has lots of hiding places, but still. At the moment the cuckatoo male is the bad boy of the tank but he just chases a bit and the female seems to be able to put him in his place from time to time but the bolivians are much bigger than he is.... at the moment.
2. I'll probably move the lone borelli to the 29 gallon so he is not tormented by breeding cichlids.
3. My husband really wants me to move the farlowella cat to the 60 gallon (it is at the house, the 29 gallon is at the office) but my fear is that the food aggressive congos and angels might make it very hard to consistently get food to the farlowella. I'm worried he might starve.
4. Should I think about putting the male and female bn together for companionship? While it would be fun to breed them, the lfs by me is pathetic and I would not want to turn over little ones to them. So breeding is not a good idea really. Maybe my sense of companionship is just applying human thinking to the bn. Thoughts?
5. I think I'm going to give the 4 blue danios to a friend and then replace the 29 gallon with a 40 gallon. What stunning fish would work with neons on a black background with black gravel and green plants? Would moonlight gourami's eat neons?
Anyone have any other ideas?
