Stocking A 45 Gallon

i have a 45 gallon tank with ug filter and an internal filter(2 sponges attached to a power head.)im gona make a planted tank and have two questions for everyone
1-which fish should i keep in the planted aquarium other than 4 angelfish?
2-are two sponges (big sized) with power head ok as overall filteration (in addition to the plants and monthly syphoning due to plants growing in the substrate)
because i want to remove the ug filter.

thhe filter is like this fits onto a power head but the sponge is like 2 inches thicker in radius.
