hi, tomorrow (01/09/09) i pick up my 84"x30"x24" tank, just short of 1000 litres (991) i am looking at a pair of the smaller rays, exact species to be confirmed, an asian arowana, id love a siamese tiger fish and a zebra shovel nose catfish.
you think this would be fully stocked? it has really heavy filtration, a couple of the big eheims, cant remember off hand exact model.
any suggestions on the stocking, or what else i could add???
cheers,
Dave

Nice tank:) the zebra shovel nose you can get from tropical imports :) looks good. No experience with large tanks but good luck all the same:D

yeah the zebra shovel nose cats are £250 at tropical imports! can get them for about £120 so thats a bit steep! still don't know what rays to get, a lot of the smaller species are getting pretty hard to get hold of and expensive!
this is just a starter, something to work on, towards my final stocking, things may change, you never know, one thing i do know is i want a pair of rays, maybe hystrix, retics, or leopoldi if i can save enough lol

haha nelly, i think it will be near fully stocked witht he fish that i want lol, wouldn't want to push it!
my brother said neons lol, i can get 1000 for £130 but not intrested, i got a big tank due to my obsession with big fish!

Well top of the tank you need an arowana...depending on your budget id recomend any of the following...blue arowana, silver arowana, black arowana or any time of asian (super reds are nice ;)) or x back :p red tail giant gourmai?

Bottom of the tank as said above, a zebra TSN, pair or trio of reticulated or hystrix rays, and maybe a shoal of large clown loaches?? bichir?? lima shovel nose? fire eel?

Mid range...

Tinfoil barbs, silver dollars (good dither fish) silver sharks? datnoid?, some kind of largeish but peacfull cichlid, maybe severums or acaras (not sure on max size with them tho)

Just some ideas...mix and match lol....

hey, didn't think this thread was still about!
yeah i will eventually get either leopoldi rays or maybe p14's but starting off with a pair of reticulatus that will be here shortly after christmas, may make it a trio but not decided yet. i am hopeing to acquire a zebra shovelnose but are getting pricey for a decent sized one, think im going to order a blue base cross back arowana.
really wanted a datnioides pulcher but looks like it will be one of the other species as these are really rare and expensive now, will see what comes along.
a pair or 2 of the rotkeil severums will also be going in, i have 2 delhezi bichirs in there at the moment but unsure if they will be able to stay, i hope so! there is 3 pictus cats in there too which will be going, a channa sp. platinum that really needs to go but no one wants it lol so will have to stay.
that is the stocklist i have so far, may change slightly, but seen as though i will be stocking over a long time will have plenty of time to really think about it!
cheers,
Dave

no plecos mentioned?lol, a common pleco would look rather good? a herd of zebra plecos would be amazing! :) get a pleco in there man! :fun: what about some striped Raphael catfish? or are these not fish you are into? :hey:

a sturgeon (Acipenser sturio)would be awesome but, they grow huge, 3 meters + lol.

a sturgeon lol, it would grow longer and probably wider than the whole tank.

i do want a plec in there, its just deciding which one, it has to grow quite large, be able to live with rays, not have ny particularly special needs. as most of my time will be spent tending to the rays.
the most likely pleco addition is a hypostomus luteus, probably the pure yellow phase, same family as the common pleco, and similar needs, considerably more expensive, between £150 and £600 each.
been chatting to neil at pier aquatics as he has some in stock, just want to get the rays in first, they will be here shortly after new year then probably a couple of months later i will get the plec, then its big saving for the arowana!
lots to do, with limited cash at the moment! nothing i can't do lol

Dave

What do you have in atm then? i'd imagine it looks pretty empty being so large, at least if you're taking you're time you can plan it perfectly.
