Hello Everyone,

I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment and ample spare tanks left over from when I last kept betta's a few years ago.
I've been in touch with a fancy guppy breeder and already decided on a trio of roundtails that i like the look of.

All I need to know now is, how best to decorate my 10 gal to accommodate the guppy family? Which plants do guppies like best and which floating plants will survive best in a low light environment (if any)? Can I use the Indian Almond Leaves that I have left over for the fry tanks or do these have no benefit to guppies at all? Also, is it important to have hiding places for the female guppies so they can escape from the male if need be?

I already have a cycled 10 gal and I'm hoping to have the fish by mid week, I also have plenty spare bare bottomed fry tanks with heaters. My aim would be to keep a few fry for myself and sell on any surplus to friends or other fish keepers, within reasonable numbers of course.

Any advice you can offer on the decoration side would be great, as I've kept betta's for so long now that I think may be over complicating things!?

Thank You :good:

Guppies are fairly easy to accommodate Lamp. A 10 gallon with some nice cover in it is all that a guppy really needs to breed successfully. I like to use java moss for the cover, it gives me high survival rates for the fry. I have found that even room lighting is enough to keep java moss going in an unlighted tank although it grows better if you have a tank light. I have never used the almond leaves so I don't know if they would help guppies or not.

Thank you for the info, I'll look into getting some java moss straight away, no doubt fry will benefit from being able to hide there too.

I had thought a lot of my questions may be fairly obvious but i've been out of the loop so long, I thought it was best to check!
