Bought the tank and set it up and filled it with water on Sunday, all was good with the world. On tuesday morning I awoke to a cloudy tank, so I did some searching on the internet and that's how I stumbled onto this forum, realised the cloudiness was normal so still fine. The tank is still very cloudy, I can't see the heater at the back, it's that cloudy!

My question is can I start the fishless cycle whilst it's still cloudy or do I have to wait for it to clear?

I have everything ready to go, just don't want to mess it up on my first go, lol. Also, I've read here that a lot of people recommend the API test kits, I have the Interpret kit, I presume they all do the same job as well as each other?

yes, they all do the same job, liquid kits are more accurate so that's a good start. dont worry about the cloudy water, no idea what is causing it though, since you've not added any ammonia yet and there will be no bacteria to even begin a bloom. Did you put sand in there? did you wash it? Anyway, wont matter, just measure out your ammonia and dose it up, turn up the temp to 30 degrees to help speed up the cycle and crack on. Gives you a good month to research your fish and plan your layout. :) gluck.

Have you added any ornaments that weren't thoroughly washed? This can cause cloudiness. It is fine though, should disappear in a few days. Have fun cycling :good:

Wow, that was fast, many thanks :good:

I put gravel and yes washed it first, also I did put some decor in and washed that to, maybe it wasn't thorough enough so could explain it. I'll crack on with it tonight then and see where it takes me :)

Welcome to the forum P.S.
It sounds like you do not yet have any fish so you are way ahead of most newcomers here. The fishless cycle can be readily done using your arrangement, just follow the steps in the fishless cycle thread.
