Hi...I need some information on starting a 30 gallon fish only tank. I just want a simple tank with a scorpion fish in it. As of now I have a ligting, fiter, and heater from my old salt water fish tank. I wanted to know if I should invest in a protein skimmer or not?

Also I want to start up my tank, so that I can have my tank fresh as possible and so that my scorpion fish can live a happy and long life. Please help me out.

if there are any thing that I am missing...please tell me.

What type of filter do you have? Having just a fish like this is called going Fo, or Fish Only. If you chose to start placing live rock in your tank, which is recomended for filtration purposes, its called FOWLR, Fish Only with Live Rock.

An external cannister would be good for a FO or FOWLR, and a HOB or Hang on BAck skimmer would also be beneficial. In tank skimmer take up much room and are unsightly.

As for your stocking choice, you need to make sure you buy a DWARF lionfish, because a normal Volitans or other larger species wont suit a 30g tank im afraid. :( Just way too big. Google their name for pictures and more info.
