Spilt Some Tea In My Tank...

Well this morning I accidently spilt 1/4 of a cup of tea into the 10 litre tub that I keep my tiny baby apple snails in.

How dangerous is tea to snails? It was English breakfast tea (Twinings) with milk and sweetener if that makes a difference.

I immediately did 2 90% water changes and the water is clear and looks and smells like plain water, but I'm not sure whether I should do a couple more.

I dout it will hae done it any good but i dont think it will have done much if any damage. The water should be fine after 2 90% wc. quite a few betta keeper use IAL teabags in there tank so it shouldnt have done much damage.

stick some carbon in the filter if you have any just to be safe

just remember to remove it after a few weeks otherwise it will start leeching the nasties back into the tank

I bet they were upset that there was only sweetner and not three spoons of real suger in there for a proper caffeine/carbohydrate fix

unfortunately the snails didnt get any biscuits

and it doesnt have a filter at the moment, as the ammonia doesnt build up to a detectable amount in any of the times between water changes. I have an additional filter ready for it in my other tank when it needs it, but its only a sponge filter so no room for carbon

I dont have any carbon anyway, as all the types ive seen in the lfs have zeolite in, which I obviously dont want. Going off the topic a bit, know any good brands of carbon i could pick up on ebay or other internet sites? Something small, so I can fit it where the zeolite cartridges went in my Hagen Elite Stingray 15 filter.

Yes they seem fine, quite a few seem to be near the surface though.

to be honest 2 90% water changes in a 10L tub should be more than enough without carbon
