My older Betta Carmel is beginnning to get weird. Sometimes he freaks out for no reason and his head comes out of the water and he trashes around and hits himself against his tank walls and I am starting to get worried. Any idea why he is doing this sort of stuff? And then when he is done with his "moment" he sits at the bottom of the tank real still until I feed him again. There are no specks on him but I have noticed the around his gills and fins it is red. Is the his normal coloring or is there something more to that? I think he is seizuring and so do my parents. Can someone help me?

It might be gill flukes.
Wait until Wilder gets on, I know she knows a lot about fish diseases.
Also, please get your water stats, he might be freaking out because of high ammonia.
Do you add any water conditioner?
How big is his tank?
How often do you do water changes?
Could there have been anything (air fresheners, etc) that got into his tank?

I have water conditioner but for 5 gallons and up. He is in a one gallon and I change water about once a week.

I do not think Carmel has Fluke but I will look into that a little later. It seems like he has seizures though because last night he had one and this morning when I walked in the room he was finishing one and I put a temporary lid on the tank because started jumping out as if he could not control himself. I am going to put him in a corner with not view of any other fish and see what the case is.

Sounds like a classic case of poor water quality, and ur not conditioning the water? u really should be... just put 5 table spoons of water into a container, and then conditioner for 5 gallons, mix it up, and put one tablespoon in his tank, and bingo, perfect amount for a 1 gallon.
